Californication: The Complete Series

Binge-watched the entire 7-season series, using Netflix, in less than a week!Because I loved it so much, I bought the Complete Series of "Californication" from Amazon, and am now "binge-watching" all 7 seasons--again!It's that good!In the very first scene of the first episode of Season 1, "Hank Moody" (David Duchovny) walks into a church, approaches the huge statue of Jesus hanging from the wall, and says he wants to talk!As he starts to tell JC his woeful tale, a Nun in full Habit approaches and offers to help.Moody hesitates.Then the Nun says she'll do oral sex on him to help him through his writer's block!It only gets funnier from there!Hank is in love--deeply--with Karen (Natascha McElhone), who he used to live with in New York in unwedded bliss, where they conceivedBecca (Madeleine Martin), before moving to Venice CA, where Hank is managed by longtime friend Charlie (Evan Handler), who's married to the scrumptious little sex freak Marcy!Hank wants to get back with Karen so bad, but he always screws things up--literally!--just when it seems his greatest wish is coming true!One big problem happens when Karen's new beau Bill's daughter (Mia, played by Madeline Zima) winds up in Hank's bed--at age 16!--by mistake.Hank thought she was older!Becca is really my favorite character.When the show began--in 2007--she was supposed to be 12 years old.But she showed the wisdom of someone twice her age!And, on a personal note, I recently fell in love (figuratively speaking!) with the Australian singer-songwriter Courtney Barnett.Magnificent talent! (Read my review of her CD on Amazon!)But what struck me when I first saw Becca was---she looks EXACTLY like Courtney Barnett!!(And Becca, in the show, is a rock guitarist and singer, like Ms Barnett!)Every episode (12 per season, each about 25 to 30 minutes long) produces Laugh Out Loud moments, some so uproarious, I had to go back and re-watch the past 5 minutes again!Yet the show has some very tender poignant moments too.And several of those come when father and daughter are alone together!A STRONG warning to those with delicate prudish souls--there's an ENDLESS array of cuss words---and I mean ones even your biker buddy never uses, as well as tons of nudity, fairly graphic (though not porn!) sex scenes, and frequent use of drugs, mainly marijuana and cocaine!If you can handle all that, then you'll be loving this hippest & coolest of all shows!And the selection of songs that are played throughout, and at each episode's end, fits the show like a glove!The DVD set (the one I now happily own!) is great, works perfectly, and has 2 discs (with 6 episodes on each disc) per season, so there's 14 discs!.Not much in extras, but every episode offers Closed Captioning which is easy to read!If I could add a few stars to this show, I would!In its day, "I Love Lucy" broke some walls down.So did "All in the Family" and "NYPD Blue" in their eras.For the years from 2007 through 2014 (The show skipped 2010 for some reason!), "Californication" raised the bar again!(BTW, the show's name PERFECTLY describes the show!! LOL)

I know that a lot of the reviews here are reviews of the show itself. I imagine that if you are looking at this you already love the show and like me, you got tired of having to find a site that is currently streaming the show. Well, problem solved. This boxed set has every episode of this quite awesome show. Frankly, for the price there is no reason not to get this.My one and only complaint would be with the packaging. To put this many discs into a package this compact means that there were some creative ways of fitting everything in the box. You will have to remove discs to get to other discs and carefully find somewhere to lay them . Then you will need to carefully try to put everything back in a way that does not confuse you the next time. And due to the discs being stacked on the fasteners, sometimes a disc falls off inside the box and rattles around loosely. Yes, they could have packed them better. Yes, it probably could not have been sold for this price if they did. I just want people to have a heads up about what to expect, but if you love this show and want to be able to watch it anytime you want, you need this box set. Just get it. Repackage them if the box annoys you. I might do that actually. But every season for this price is a bargain.

Great show love it

There are some issues with this set. First, although the discs are supposed to be brand new, and the set was sealed, the 3rd Season Disc 2 has scratches on it. I've also had trouble playing some of the other discs which could be because I'm using a very old VCR/DVD player. And, I can't get the Closed Captioning to work, although, again, this may be because I'm using an old player. I went into the player menu and confirmed that the Closed Captioning option is turned on. This is on the discs for Seasons 1 - 3 which is as far as I've gotten.Also, as other reviews mentioned, there are unskippable ads at the beginning. Not cool! I paid $33.18 for this (incl. sales tax), and I have to see previews for old movies? I've been sitting through them with the sound turned down.Idk. I bought the set because it was cheaper than subscribing to Showtime streaming, so maybe I got what I paid for. Or, maybe all issues (except the scratches) are from using an old player. I have an external DVD drive on order from Amazon, and maybe I'll get better results viewing on it.

I've seen this show from beginning to end 3 times...and it's still one of my favorite shows of all time. So I had to get the Complete series set. That being said, Is the show perfect? No. There are a few episodes where they turn Hank's character into a complete idiot, who's incapable of having a mature conversation, you'll see what I mean....but overall it's still a great show, one of the best ones ever made 👍👍 They definitely don't make shows like this anymore. Get it!

Whole I've not had time to view, the package arrived, safely, intact and I'm anticipating a weekend of relaxing watching what a friend has described as cheeky, funny and with Jason Beghe in it.Thank you.

If you haven’t seen the show and like crude, sexual humor, watch it! David Duchovny basically plays himself and it’s funny as hell. The packaging is bare bones but functional, and I didn’t have problems with any of the discs. A great way to own the whole show and not overpay!
