Does exactly what it says on the box, and it’s fast!
Superb piece of kit fast very portable, also comes with a rubber cover. Needed it for storing my pictures off my apple system, impressive speed transfer. It’s not cheep but in my estimation well worth the money, oh works on my PC too.

Super fast; Super easy
I wanted to upgrade by back-up disc. I few searches led me to this one. It's fast and very small. It's a third the size of my old one and three times faster than my current one. Compact. Slim. Light and understated. It plugged straight in and got straight to work with no setup needed on my Apple Mac. I'm very pleased with it.

Unbelievably fast over thunderbolt on an m1 max mini.
As fast as the internal ssd!It does get pretty warm so time will tell if this is a problem.

Overheated and crashed two different computers. All i was doing is writing information to it!!
Returning this item immediately and hoping to warn others too here: It overheats when you attempt to use it and causes a system crash and i did try it on 2 different computers to see if it happened twice. It did. It also appears to have a faulty socket which is all very disappointing for such an expensive item. Oh, and no way will you get the speeds they promote for the drive either. I have a high end pc with full Thunderbolt 4 support. My advise is steer clear of Thunderbolt items altogether until later on when they've worked it all out, for now it's a waste of time and money. This item isn't just faulty, it is dangerous and could ruin your pc altogether. There... I've done my bit for humanity.

Thunderbolt 3 AND Usb C compatible. AND Space Grey!
What a fantastic little beast this is!I was going to go for the 1tb option which is shipped from Amazon US and is much better value even with the import charges but they had a decent discount voucher on prime day so went with the 512gb.The innards of this are QLC so not quite as lovely as the Rocket 2280 I also have (which I was going to swap out but decided on keep the warranty valid).Given this is the only product on the market at the moment to offer TB3 and Usb C it’s a no brainer if you want a 40gbps external SSD.It might be the 1st USB4 product to market in stealth guise as I’m guessing USB4 40gbps will offer same functionality but either way its awesome. If you don’t absolutely need the speed then you are probably better waiting for the USB4 stuff to arrive next year as TB3 products are crazy expensive!I did need the speed though - I bought a mac mini I7 that had a teenie weenie 128gb HD so this was my ideal solution and cost me much less than buying a new mac mini with the upgraded SSD size.My set up now is: boot from internal for Catalina with sidecar for photo editing with the drive still available for storage and then boot from the Rocket xtrm for music production using Mojave that still runs my plug ins. Perfect!Build wise it is solid (literally solid alu) - same as the external enclosure I already have from Sabrent BUT - It is lovely lovely space grey!!!It looks black in the pics. It’s not its Space grey. It also comes with a silicone bumper which I am using because it gets frikkin hot so does detract from the lovely looks slightly but better to have the option!ALSO - if like me you have TB3 but not usb 3.2 its worth noting you won’t be able to use any of the USB-C 20gbps drives/enclosures above 10gbps.So your options are affordable 10gbps or eye wateringly expensive TB3 40gbps.I really want the 2TB version but just can’t afford it so this will keep me going till the price of that drops. If you are thinking of the Samsung X5 etc... this is much cheaper, solid space grey aluminium and does USB C as well for other devices so gets a very easy 5 stars from me (maybe wait till black Friday for a deal though!)

Wow, super fast
OSX TimeMachine backed up 600TB in around 30 minutes from a MacBookPro 16" with Thunderbolt cable supplied with this external drive. Copied 250TB of photos to the same disk in around 15 min using a simple copy / paste. So much faster than same backup using spinning disk external storage using the same connection & cable type, and faster than a brand new ITB SDXC card directly connected to my Mac.

All going very well so far
I am in the middle of preparing to transition from an 8TB MacBookPro to an Apple Mac Studio Ultra for my home workstation. I am using the XTRM-Q 8TB via Thunderbolt 3 for a complete new back-up of the MBP which I will maintain until the Studio arrives and then use when I set up the Studio. It should make this a far quicker and easier processes than using a slower drive or the crazy via wifi/bluetooth options. After that the XTRM-Q becomes my main in the field external SSD and a way to move TB's of Photos and Vids from shoots to my workstation. I carry a number of external back-up drives with me, but the XTRM-Q will be my primary.Yes it does get warm - but not hot. At 35% (3.5TB) through the backup it is working perfectly well.
