MUJI Cuckoo Clock, White, Medium

I was looking online for an inexpensive cuckoo clock, since I don't want to deal with the maintenance, cost, and commitment that goes into owning an artfully-handcrafted German one. (We have a modern grandfather clock, and even THAT is a chore.) Predictably, every fake cuckoo clock I looked at appeared to be pretty awful. This modern-minimalist one by Muji caught my eye, however, because it strongly reminded me of a modern plastic cuckoo clock I adored back in college (which tragically, inexplicably MELTED in storage). I showed it to my husband, who really liked it, so I added it to my Amazon "gift ideas" list. I surprised him with the clock for Christmas, to hang in his den, and he was happy but also... confused. (He's easy to shop for because his memory is terrible.) Setup was easy -- once you've read the instructions, that is -- and I feel like it keeps really good time. It has this warm, organic-sounding toot -- NOT a digital toot! -- generated by air being pushed through a bellows. I bought it on the strength of its glowing Amazon reviews, but I really could not have anticipated how MUCH we'd all enjoy this clock. "Charming and delightful," my husband says. When it toots on the hour, our cat runs in to come watch, her adorable "kill it" eyes wide and sparkling. It is the cutest thing. This clock already feels like a part of our family, which is such a strange thing to feel about an inanimate object. ("To steal a line from Marie Kondo, that clock sparks joy," my husband said tonight.) I'm planning to buy another one for a friend who is reclusive and who really likes modern design, minimalism, and Japanese stuff (and Muji stuff, specifically). This clock is so oddly comforting and reassuring, and it makes such nice company. It's a "companion" timepiece sure to "warm up" any family room. P.S. I got through this whole review without once uttering the word "hygge," which is a major achievement for me. If you know what that is, though, this clock IS hygge.

Love this cuckoo clock! White color is fine with me. It chirps accurately. The instructions on the side of the door is easier to follow than the instruction sheet. A bit pricey.

I am a minimalist and like clean lines so this clock fit well in my decor. I thought for sure I was going to like another cuckoo clock I had ordered too with a cute door but nope this is the one that won! I read a review on Amazon that suggested this was the best cuckoo clock and I agree! It is just so cute. The sound and movement of the bird is perfect. I got tired of the other one with the door but not this one. It never gets old how cute and nice the cuckoos are. Plus this one has a sensor! It’s very important to me that the sound turns off in a darkened room.

The clock keeps great time. The bird coo coo's (and it sounds just like a real coo coo clock) as many times as it is the hour. So 2:00 o'clock you get two coo coo's. On the half hr. it coo coo's once. It automatically stop coo cooing when it gets dark. There is no volume control, but it does have a silence switch. I find the volume fine just the way it is for daytime. Arrive at the speed of sound and was very well wrapped. This is our second clock. The first one the bird was broken. I returned it, order from this co. & it is perfect. 💕

My 3 year old daughter asked Santa for a legos and a cuckoo clock this year so I went on the hunt for the best clock to recommend to the big guy. Wanted something cute but also not too ornate or too expensive. Cuckoo clocks are not cheap! I read good reviews about this clock and people said they liked it more than they thought they would. Since Santa left it on Christmas we have enjoyed it. It looks nice, fits in pretty well with out home decor and the cuckoo isn't too annoying. There is even a light sensor so that it won't cuckoo all night when the lights are out and everyone's sleeping. I only wish the cuckoo bird hid behind a door instead of just retreating just inside his hole. And while I appreciate that he is mellow, I feel like he could use some prozac! He almost sounds depressed, or maybe the word is indifferent. Still overall it's cute and was the most reasonably priced option.

I love this cuckoo clock! I would love to travel back to Germany and get a real Bavaria cuckoo clock one day. But I really love the modern style and simplicity of this clock. I still need to figure out how it works so it’ll cuckoo how many times it is for the hour. Very sturdy and well built. The cuckoo is very soft and gentle. My family loves it!

I thought long and hard about getting this due to the intimidating price tag. I had it saved in my wishlist for a while. I always wanted a cuckoo clock as a kid and I told myself when I had my own place I would get one. This year I finally moved into my first apartment with my boyfriend and decided to splurge on this as my own house warming gift. I'm so glad I did. Everyone that visits falls in love with it. It looks super sleek and modern which will fit any aesthetic I decide to have within my home. I love that it has a sensor that stops the chime at night.
