It works perfectly for what it is
After upgrading my main PC nvme drive, I was left with an extra 500gb gen 3 nvme drive.Wanted an enclosure just to keep the drive safe and that I could use to back up random stuff or to clone my main drive. After looking through many usb 3.1 enclosures, I found this one. The price seem right, but the best feature is that it uses the Realtek RTL9210 chipset. This is the best chipset to use on external nvme enclosures. The other chips available from other manufacturers have issues and run very hot. This chipset also gives you the option to use nvme or ssd m2 drives, which you have to pay more for that feature on other chips. This tool less case is very easy to setup and I was ready to go in 2 minutes. After plugging the drive into the USB C port in the back of my pc, I was getting max speeds of 1000 MB/s reads and writes. Also I tested file copy to see if I would get any slowdowns. I was able to copy a single 50 gig file in a couple of minutes with no slowdowns. Then I copied a 166 gig folder with many files in it and I was extremely surprised that it copied the whole folder in about 6 minutes and the drive did not slowed down once. You can see the transfer rate on the picture attached. You can see that there are no significant dips or slowdowns. Also you can see the screenshot of crystalmark speeds showing the 1000 MB/s rates.I was also able to plug in the case into my Note 20 Ultra and I was able to see the drive and copy files into it.Now, after the benchmarks and tests the case got very warm. It would have been perfect if this case would be metal. I really dont see the point of having the heat pad in the package if the enclosure it plastic. This enclosure does exactly what is suppose to and does it well. Like a previous reviewer stated, I would not use this enclosure to keep the drive plugged in all the time. I would use it just for backing up data or moving files.ANd if you want to get a really good nvme drive , I would recommend the INLAND PREMIUM nvme drives, which is the one I have on this enclosure at the moment.

Fast, doesn't run hot, and easy to use
It's just an enclosure, but it does exactly what it needs to do, and does it well.It doesn't get very hot at all.Its a toolless case, and the tray/drive area can slide back in either way.It comes with two cables (which I personally prefer to a cable and an adapter).Speeds are as expected for usb 3.2It support SATA and NVME, with all the different key types, and sizes (2230-2280).Price is on the lower end of the spectrum. These all seem like they should be standard for an M.2 enclosure, but many models fail at keeping it simple. They require a tool, don't support all the various types of drives, or aren't well designed.Would, and probably will, buy again

Toolless and very easy to use!
Very easy to use. Easy to install the SSD. Lockdown was pretty snug so took a little getting used to, but it's totally tool free. I thought it was defective because the activity light didn't work but turns out either end comes off and I had put it together backwards. Keying each end might be helpful to avoid the same mistake I made, but I won't knock any stars off for that.Overall, fantastic product at a great price that did exactly what I needed it for. I'd recommend it!

Works For Me on Linux
This enclosure is easy to use and works about as expected. I would not use it to swap drives in and out of more than a couple of times because the sliding latches are plastic. The cooling fin area appears to be the only metal on the enclosure.I tested the speeds on 3 different systems, all with a Silicon Power 2TB TLC NVMe SSD. Transfer speeds of the SSD installed directly on the Z370 motherboard were approx 2500 MB/s. All systems were running Linux Mint and hdparm was used to measure read speeds. Both type A and type C connections were tested for reading and no difference in speed was noted between them. The write speed was measured with nemo during the transfer of approx 900GB of mixed size files from an onboard NVMe SSD. All tests were done on USB 3.2 gen2 connections with the exception of the I7 system which was additionally tested with USB 3.2 gen1 (also known as USB 3.0 and USB 3.1 gen1),Results:Asrock Z370 Extreme4I7-8700KRead USB gen1=438 MB/sRead USB gen2=980 MB/sAsrock B450 Pro4Ryzen 5 3600Read USB gen2=935 MB/sAsrock B450 Pro4Ryzen 3 3200GRead USB gen2=935 MB/sWrite USB gen2=935 MB/sLinux did not report temperature for this drive. Due to the lack of temperature monitoring I removed the adapter card/drive from the enclosure and used a 120mm case fan to ensure the drive stayed cool during the large write and there was no throttling noticed. I'm not convinced that this enclosure would keep the drive cool during really large writes but it may, please check other reviews regarding temps.

I love this for all the loose m.2 ssd/nvme/sata drives I have
Exactly what I needed! Plugs right into my usb c and I can use all of my loose m.2 ssd/nvme drives. The thing I like the most is that it reads my older m.2 sata drives which my latest cpu/motherboard combo doesn’t read. However, this solved the problem and I was able to access all my data quick and easily!

Seemed to work, but ultimately failed.
I bought this to use with a 1TB M.2 (2280?) SSD. Initially, as part of my testing, it seemed to work; allowing my to write a large directory to the storage device. However, when I attempted to read back the files I had just written, the connection to the device was lost. Unplugging and plugging it back in (the usual Windows 'fix') did not restore function. A system reboot also did not restore function. I swapped the 1TB into an SSK external SSD enclosure, and it worked properly. I am sending this back. It's too bad. It's a good form factor with a good price. For now, I'll stick with an SSK external SSD enclosure.
