Faith Alone: A Daily Devotional Hardcover – October 9, 2005

I bought the kindle version because I really like to be able to carry my library with me wherever I go. I found the kindle version easy to navigate and read. I strive to read the devotional for the day in the morning so I can think about it as I move through the day. There is always some nugget from the reading that makes it seems as if it was written just for me for my daily struggles and joys. It doesn't take long to read each daily devotion, but the words stick to my heart and nourish me throughout the day like a healthy breakfast. I appreciate having the words of Martin Luther in modern language so I can spend less time stumbling over archaic language meanings and more time thinking about what God is telling me.

Oh, how I enjoy and love this book! It helps me understand Holy Scripture much better. It is also great for everyone new to the faith. It covers every subject in life and gives comfort and insight. Luther was blessed with a very sharp, highly astute mind and his devotion and love for God comes through on every page. This is a nice and easy to understand translation, highly recommended!

Each day a new insight from Martin Luther. These are thought provoking words on the Christian life from a follower of Christ.

Good devotional, thought provoking. You don't have to agree with Luther to appreciate what he writes. I use this devotional alongside the 2nd and 3rd c. Church Fathers devotional "Day by Day with the Early Church Fathers" to lend balance and perspective to "New" thought emerging in today's Christian community. Luther's language tended to be lower street German and he was particularly loquacious in his sermons and writings, requiring the editor of this book to significant reduce/modify content while attempting to stay faithful to Luther's intent. When I read some of the editor's somewhat terse translations, I'm afraid that something might have been lost in the translation, thus a cautionary cost of one star. Still I recommend any Christian serious about her faith to consider this devotional as part of her daily spiritual diet.

If you are a Christian of extremes--often finding that you are veering to the left or to the right when you simply want to stay on God's path--then this devotional is for you. I personally read it contrary to the way it is set up--not as a daily devotional, I often read ten or so "days" at a time--mostly because I, too, struggle with staying centered in Christ. Martin Luther's work will help you do this. For on one page he writes of faith, on the next, he writes of good works. He is uses Scripture to illustrate the proper place for each in our lives. Other helpful topics include how we should view God (not as Judge, not simply as Creator, but as Father). I have found this reading most helpful.

Martin Luther a man of how he found the true meaning of how to live in the gift that our Lord Jesus Christ gave us, which is faith. It's not that we should put our trust in our good works that we do, but the good works that we do do is done in appreciation that we show our God when He did not spare His One and Only Son, but gave His Son unto death and then rise three days later to give us poor miserable sinners life everlasting. Don't trust in what you can do for God, but do your good works to His Glory and NOT your OWN. That's what these 365 daily devotions are what Luther wrote about will save you. The just will live by faith. I highly recommend this book as your companion with your reading of God's Holy Word. God bless to all who I pray the review of this book will help you.
