Inline Y filters are used in piping to prevent debris from flowing through pipes. Fluid passes through the strainer screen, which filters out foreign matter. The strainer is serviceable by removing the top of the Y fitting. The screen can be removed from the strainer support and cleaned.

It stops rust from getting to shut of valves, in my domestic water system...
I have some galvanized steel piping under my house... I'm planning on replacing the plumbing "some day" because rust particles are screwing up my faucets that have O-ring seals... The fine screen, in the filter, stops the rust from getting to the valves... I plumbed it in AFTER the hot water shut off under the sink... NO MORE RUST ruining the O-rings...

Really nice quality schedule 150 pipe fitting
Really nice quality schedule 150 pipe fitting. Threads are machined (some low quality fittings try to cast the threads into the fitting). I used my fitting in a waste oil burner; filters out line (1/4" copper tube) clogging particles.
