Persephone the Phony (2) (Goddess Girls)

Persephone the Phony is Good Clean Fun
Hear me out. The book is a tempting read. The MythLet's recall the myth behind story. Mythology buffs will know it's based on The Rape of Persephone...I mean, the Abduction of Persephone...or Persephone and the Pomegranate Seeds. There. Everyone is comfortable. Those familiar with the myth are in for a humorous treat. It's fun to see just how clean and G-rated the authors retell the tale. It's creative and has smooth transitions.Hades Is a Gentleman, Mom.Do I recommend this book to tweens? Well, why not? It's good preparation for more complex mythology fiction. Though I tend to steer away from tween romance, Persephone is indeed the most down-to-earth goddessgirl. She values chivalry. She is learning how to speak her mind. She and her mom gain mutual respect for the other's opinion. The lesson: listen to your heart and think with your mind. But don't worry, girls. Eventually, Hades turns out to be mother-approved.And The Story Goes On--Hopefully!Dangit! Her best friends each get two books to themselves. Other students at Mount Olympus Academy also get their own stories. So where is the Goddess of Spring?Persephone doesn't get enough page time! And neither does Hades for that matter. Good news though--the authors plan to release a book called Persephone and Hades. Alas, the book comes out next year. Till then, I'll help my mom in the garden. But I do expect their future story to be longer. Persephone the Phony is too short!

Wrong book by mistake
Well I can’t really review this book because I got the wrong book, I received book # 5 instead. I’m not really upset by that though I do want to get all of these for my daughter. My daughter is 8 and I wanted to find something somewhat historical but mild for her to read that she would enjoy and we have only read the first one so far but we have a ton of large chapter books to work thru so we will make it to these.

Great new series for young girls
There is a lovely new series of books about the Greek goddesses as young girls entitled Goddess Girls. My review of ATHENA THE BRAIN is below. Please note although I haven't read this book I can tell you that in my school library this book is checked out constantly. I have multiple copies now and the word of mouth recommendations by the students themselves is amazing. Someone asks for it every day. I am so thrilled that Joan Holub is writing more Goddess Girls books. Having young girls excited about a new series is exciting for me.The first one is Athena the Brain and it is adorable. Athena is living on earth being raised by mortals until she is summoned to Mount Olympus by her dad, Zeus. It is time for her to attend the academy and so she bids her best friend farewell and heads off to Olympus. There she meets Persephone, Aphrodite and Artemis ( each will have their own book) as well as Zeus, Poseidon, Pandora and more. Filled with mythology and creative earthy inventions (Athena invents olives in a science fair) this book is perfect as a prequel to The Lightning Thief series and for younger kids.

Great book!
Persephone feels REALLY phony. Her mom's tells her to, "go along to get along" but this means Persephone has no choice of what she does.SPOILER ALERTThen Persephone's yarn falls onto a cemetery. She enjoys it there and makes a daisy chain. However, soon Hades arrives and her life changes.Just when she gets to know Hades, her mom rushes her away. Everyone she thought she knew suddenly changes to keep her away from Hades. Through a series of events, Persephone must discover her real self-and clear the air between her, her mom, and her friends.Really great book!

Made a little girl very happy.
You need to know, you made a little girl squeal like a pig and jump up and down. She has book one and book three (and about eight others) but we couldn't find book two. So I hope it gives you a big, all day smile to know you made a little girl very happy. Thank you.

I <3 books
I loved this book soooooooooo much that I read it, like, a thousand times and still can't get enough of it. This book is, by far,( in my opinion) the best book in the series. I would recommend this book to any one how loves the Greek Gods, especially if they like darker or more mysterious type of character.

As usual the Goddess Girls book never fail to amuse me
It was wonderful and I loved it. The story of how these authors turn the Greek Mythology into a series of Divas and Friends is amazing. Thumbs up! It is a Must Read
