Fuzzy Yellow Ducklings: Fold-out Fun with Textures, Colors, Shapes, Animals by Matthew Van Fleet (1995-09-28)

Very soft, cute, briefly comforting book
The duck on the front of this book is just so soft! Obviously your kid is going to ruin this soft duck book because that is what children do. But for like a week you'll get to pet this soft duck book and be like 'Man, this duck book is so comfortingly soft. During this time of great social, political, and medical upheaval, petting this soft duck book gives me a fleeting moment of solace' Anyway if you have a toddler buy this book and call it a pandemic present to the both of you because also it teaches about both shapes and textures so, bonus.

Great interactive books but easily destroyed by target audience
I love all of Matthew Van Fleet's books. They have adorable illustrations and I appreciate that these are interactive ... the next step after board books. Very interactive - lots of fold outs and different textures. Throughout, the book each page contains either a fold-out, for the child to manipulate or a textured surface for the child to interact with and feel. I like telling my child what that feeling is called as they touch the surface. There are very few words throughout the book which is appropriate for the age-level for which this book is aimed. The only drawback with this style is that the child might tear out the fold-outs or rip out the textured surfaces. So just watch them carefully, don't let them play with the book on their own and remind them to do it slowly and gently. So far we have had no rips. Fingers crossed.

Simple and beautiful - best touch-and-feel book yet
I'd come across this book by accident in a consignment store, and loved it so much, I bought it (new) from Amazon as soon as I got home. Move over, Pat the Bunny, indeed!Yes, I do agree the pages seem a little flimsy for the age group for which the book is intended. Were they any thicker, however, and some of the textures would be hard to appreciate before unfolding the flaps (like the thin sticky frog tongues). With supervision, the book should withstand the use. Otherwise, I'd be willing to replace it just for how extraordinarily good the content is.The idea and the execution are clean, concise, and simply brilliant. Every single page gives a texture, a color, a shape, and an animal, and all that beautifully drawn and with no visual clutter. The minimalist wording made the book the perfect choice as soon as my son was old enough to notice his hands (about 2 months) - I've been propping him against my chest, reading the words and pointing to the shapes and animals, and putting his hand against the textures, and he seems really captivated. The textures are:- fuzzy- bumpy- furry- scaly- woolly- scratchy- stickyThe colors are:- yellow- brown- gray- green- white- blue- pinkThe shapes are:- circle- triangle- square- oval- rectangle- crescent- lineThe animals are:- ducklings- toads- koalas- iguanas- sheep- sharks- frogs (frog tongues)Our personal favorites are the scratchy sharks (what a surprising texture!) and the sticky frog tongues (obviously). The little rhyme and a four-page fold out at the end are an added bonus.

Educational and cute!
I adore this book! I love how it ties in shapes, colors, animals, and textures. I would give it five stars except that the flaps are rather flimsy for a toddler book; I would recommend only using it under supervision if you want it to last.

This was my sons favorite book when he was a baby
Somehow he remembered me reading him this book from when he was probably about 2, I was so glad to have been able to find it and I sent it to him for his baby daughter. He loves reading it to her and she enjoys it.

Terrible purchase!!
I was under the impression it would come with a little wear. It’s disgusting!! All the pages are sticky with a nasty looking gunk on it. Pages a torn in half. It’s complete trash!! A waste of time and money! First time buying a ‘used’ book offline, NEVER AGAIN!!

Poor condition
I bought fuzzy yellow ducklings as a present for my niece for Christmas. The book was bought as "new". Unfortunately, when it arrived it was not in a condition I would describe as "new". The books cover is cream coloured, however the copy I received was yellowed around the edges and on the back with what looked like sun exposure. It had numerous marks on the cover, including a price tag which left a sticky, dirty mark upon its removal. There are lots of different textures within the book that little ones will love, however the woolly white rectangle page inside my copy had a large dirty brown mark on it. There were also creases on some of the other pages. Fuzzy yellow ducklings is a wonderful book but I feel the copy I received was fairly scruffy not in a condition I would describe as "new".
