Effective and easy to use
I've purchased 3 knife sharpeners (different brands and types), and this is the first one that has 1. Worked flawlessly, and 2. Allowed me to sharpen some of my "exotically" shaped work and utility knives! The previous sharpeners were inappropriately designed, and did not allow the blades of the specialty knives to pass through the grinder without being obstructed by either the knife's handle or the sharpener's bulky frame. The Mueller sharpener presented absolutely no issues here - it's worth noting that the design is exceptionally ergonomic, and the positioning of its handle provides excellent stability when in use, and offers ample relief from the workspace to keep your hands and fingers safe.Passing the blades through coarse and fine grinders as instructed yielded perfect results, and the sharpened utility blades were able to neatly slice through a single sheet of tautly-held copy paper using a gentle touch (very minimal pressure applied to achieve the cut). My kitchen knives had equally positive results when applied to onions and tomatoes. Interestingly enough, my chef's knife was relatively new, and expected to be mostly undulled, but their performance was undeniably smoother and allowed for effortless, paper thin slicing after a low-rep pass through the Mueller.10/10 - a simple tool that functions exactly as described at an excellent value.

Easier than a whetstone
If you're a connoisseur, then this is not the product for you.If you just need to keep your knives sharp in the kitchen for daily use, then this is a great product.* Very little effort needed to make this work - just run your knife through the appropriate slot about 10-20 times. Start with slot 2 if your knife is really dull, then move on to slot 3 and then finish with slot 4. For typical maintenance, you'll be using slots 3 and 4 only.* Fast use. This only requires 10-20 draws through the appropriate slots to sharpen your knife.* Fast clean-up. This doesn't require oil or water to use, so it comes out, it gets used, and it goes back - all within a minute or two.* Easy to use. I tried to train my wife to use the whet stone, but she was intimidated and hated the setup and cleanup, so she didn't use the whet stone and the knives went dull unless I sharpened them. This product she will use at the drop of a hat - zero intimidation factor.Need to keep your knives sharp for daily use? This works.Need to impress your knife connoisseur friends and keep a ridiculously sharp edge that needs constant upkeep? Then keep to your whet stone.

Works great!
This is by far one of the easiest sharpeners I've ever used and you can see/ feel the results right away. This thing made my knives so sharp that when I got carried away and miss cut, it shaved off my fingernail! After much cussing because I messed up I realized it was proof that the sharpener worked way better than I thought it would. Follow my example by purchasing this sharpener, just not by cutting yourself after you've used it.

A Pretty Good Sharpener
First off: According to the experts, the gadgets most people call knife sharpeners are really knife HONERS. They don't actually sharpen the blade: they just HONE it. A real job of sharpening is performed on a sharpening stone, and it takes about 30 minutes of labor. That much said, the Mueller Knife Sharpener is a decent gadget to "sharpen" kitchen knives. It will even sharpen ceramic knives---well, sort of.A ceramic knife is basically a throw-away knife. It comes to you razor sharp out of the box, and it stays sharp for a long time. But, when the edge finally does get dull, there's no way to sharpen it. The Mueller gadget does sharpen ceramic knives: at least somewhat. Unfortunately, it will also break some of them---but then, again, what have you lost? By the time you try sharpening your ceramic knife on the Mueller, the knife is worthless anyway. So if you succeed, good. But if you fail, you haven't lost anything .

Great Sharpener
Recently purchased this sharpener to replace a name brand sharpener that wore out very prematurely. This one works very well. It is simple to use, and I am very impressed how quickly it sharpens the blades with minimal effort. Although I was unhappy the other sharpener gave out so quickly, I am very grateful this one works so much better.

Keeps knives really, really sharp, but not great for scissors
This sharpener is awesome for knives - clearly five stars. If you start with really dull knives it may take quite a while with the coarser slots before you can use the finest slot and put a really sharp edge on the blade, but once you get it sharp it is really, really easy to keep it sharp. The only failing is that the sharpening part is recessed a bit; unless the blade is pretty wide you can't sharpen the last 5mm closest to the handle. That is a pretty minor failing. For scissors it doesn't work well unless the scissos open up a lot more than 90 degrees; if they don't then the blade that isn't being sharpened bumps into the sharpener and prevents you from sharpening the scissors.
