Hellraiser: Judgment

The Hellraiser franchise moves on and I was surprised to actually enjoy this one. Clive Barkers Cenobite creations have endured in the horror genre. I remember seeing the first Hellraiser which was very original for its day with Pinhead who was based on a Vodoo doll with nails in it and S&M clubs for the leather look. The Cenobites look for souls to take to Hell so nothing changes there but an unusual interview process which is effectively where confession time takes place for judgement. I enjoyed it but frankly I have to be in the mood for Hellraiser films. I went to see the third one at the cinema and was actually more scared by the audience which seemed to be composed of a very strange bunch of people. I think that’s the nearest I ever been to being scared by a Hellraiser film however horror films stop scaring as you get older. Hellraiser films strike a certain horror chord and have a place in the horror genre. If you have not seen one then it’s a must of a horror fan to see one. They work on gore and shock and probably are not for everyone. Recommended for horror fans .

The 'Hellraiser' franchise continues in spite of itself with another mean spirited (but strangely well-meaning) sequel that attempts to rectify some of the damage inflicted by previous entries. I would like to say it succeeds, but with a severe lack of budget and the no-show of lead Doug Bradley ultimately render this one an interesting but flawed curio...Brothers Sean & David Carter (Damon Carney and Randy Wayne, respectively) and Christine Egerton (Alexandra Harris) are a team of detectives currently investigating a serial killer known as the Preceptor, whose murders are based on the Ten Commandments. So far, so 'Se7en' rip off. However, when one of the victims leads our heroes to Watkins, a criminal who previously went missing near an abandoned house - Sean investigates only to be plunged into the world where the order of the gash reign. Bumping uglies with the likes of Pinhead (Paul T. Taylor), the Auditor and a whole heap of demonic creatures, he must find a way to escape their unwanted advances... In the meantime, the team race against time to uncover the identity of the killer and between them face the kind of trial that only the Cenobites can truly dream up...Okay, it's not the worst sequel in the world - it truly isn't. Writer/director Gary J. Tunnicliffe is a series veteran and ideal for the material and even though producers Dimension Films haven't fully supported his vision with enough money he still manages to allow his ideas and story to flourish. Sadly, the production values grate and the cast aren't exactly Daniel Day Lewis - but its an okay time. Nothing amazing, but certainly a worthy attempt - especially this late in the game. Luckily, faux Pinhead Paul Taylor does a solid job and even though you wish as an audience member that 'ol Doug would show up and save the day - Mr Taylor is a pretty good replacement.The blu-ray from Lionsgate features a solid transfer with deleted scenes and a gag reel rounding out the extras. All in all, I can't certainly say this is nowhere near the level of the first three in the series (oh okay, the first one) and not a brilliant film, but when it comes to this series' much maligned sequels - its pretty high up there. Kinda.

Been a hard core Hellraiser fan for ever. First three films are the best, after that don’t bother. This new Hellraiser absolutely blows chunks.It’s more like an episode off Supernatural. Just doesn’t work. In its own right it may as a stand alone film but to pretend it’s a Hellraiser just doesn’t work. Pinheads a frightened little boy quivering to some woman wtf?!? Nah…, total rubbish.

A sort of homage to the 80s horror fests I grew up watching but without style or substance, or horror. I was determined to watch it having rented it out but I simply couldn't get past halfway.An interesting point on it though, was like with some classic movies you would onl;y see a brief glimpse of the monster through the film to build of the suspnse. I found this the case with the acting. there would be just a flash of acting in a scene, then the film would move on and you were left wondering where the next time the acting would appear.

This Hellraiser i had high hopes for and it was half decent but not as good as the trailer made out, There is another new pinhead and he did an ok job but NO d bradley here, The story was ok and the acting was better than the last film but still poor compared to what made the original 2 so great, I here a reboot is around the corner with this franchise realy needs.

It was not the worst entry in the series by far. I felt this had all of the potential to be great but missed the mark. It was also didficult to understand the dialogue in some areas with musical interludes throught the duration.That being said, it's definitely not without it's good points. The story is dark and sinister. Certainly a film fans of the franchise will appreciate.

I'm a big fan of the original Hellraiser but watching it these days it appears seriously dated so I was well chuffed to find a new recent Hellraiser film. It is no where near the same as the other films, but in it's own right it's very good. I liked the new Pinhead, it had lots of shock value in the typical Hellraiser style and I enjoyed the storyline. Only thing I'd change is the ending because it almost ruined it for me. Personally I'd say give this film a go.

Awful installment of the franchise. Not worth your time or braincells trying to understand this horrible mess.Gratuitous gore and no real substance. Definitely not scary. Pointless self-indulgent trash.
