Wonderfully spicy and savory
This stuff is marvelous! Don't be afraid to use it liberally. It is spicy, but more of a slow roll than an in your face kind of hot, and you keep wanting a bit more. Wonderfully and unusually savory. Finally got my other half to eat collard greens and okra by making a chicken stew with this spice mix.

It’s good
I was hesitant about buying this from Amazon, but once it arrived, I opened the bag and smelled it, and it is definitely Berbere. I use it to make Zigni, or Dorowat. I’ve seen comments from people saying it’s not spicy enough, so I added some cayenne powder. I don’t think I will do that again because it turned out too spicy.

Tasty and spicy! Exactly what I wanted.
We ran out of berbere (Ethiopian spice blend) and ordered this as a replacement when we couldn’t find the blend we used before. This was exactly what we wanted.

Brundo Berbere Chili Blend - A wiinner!
Brundo Berbere Chili Blend has a unique flavor profile that is BOLD! The spice blend comes as a fine powder, and a little goes a long way, I've bought this a few times now and haven't bothered trying any other berbere brand.IMHO this spice will enhance the flavor profile of your dish (used it with beef, chicken dishes, veggies like lentil stews and dips etc.) This does have a little heat to it, but if used right, it will kick up the flavor experience of your dish. Used it this past Superbowl to enhance the flavor of one of our dips, and of the 4 dips we had on the table, the one with the berbere won out.Product has "no artificial additives or preservatives—just pure, traditional Ethiopian spices." I'm not a chef or an expert on Ethiopian cuisine, but I know what I like. Brundo Berbere Chili Blend is a winner!

Good, but too mild
The flavor is very good, but in the chili department it seems to have been blanded down for American tastes. It needs to be hotter. The same is true of their mitmita, which is much too mild. Perhaps Brundo could offer a 2 oz bottle or an 8 oz bag of African bird chilis for people who want to make their Ethiopian dishes even hotter. I just added some jalapeños to the sega wot I made today with this berbere, and when I do tere sega again with their mitmita I will make some stuffed jalapeños to go with it.

If Marcus Samuelsson Uses It, It Has to Be Delicious
I was watching an episode of Ina Garten's show "Be My Guest" with Marcus Samuelsson as her guest. As I watched him prepare the dish he was making for Ina, he used a spice blend that he referred to a Berbere. He said Berbere was an essential ingredient in North African cuisine and that, like curry powder, each kitchen had its own blend. He used a jarred Berbere but the camera did not show the name of the brand. I captured the photo of the part they did show and then went in search of it on Amazon, where it seems one can find all manner of unusual spices. I was able to recognize the label and it turned out to be this Brundo brand. Because Fetelwork Tefferi, chef-owner of Cafe Colucchi in Oakland, CA, couldn't source what she needed in America, she established a production facility in Ethiopia that produces the Berbere blend she uses in the restaurant and markets. The bottle I ordered arrived today, so I haven't been able to use it in any dishes yet. Per Samuelsson, he uses it in "everything," so I am thinking I can use it in my breakfast scrambled eggs, chili, meatloaf, etc. I tasted a bit of the raw power on my finger. Even raw, I can tell it's going to add a special something to the dishes I try it in. Can't wait to try it out.
