Post Protector - Decay Protection 4x4x42

First impression on opening box, product arrived squished with a misshaped cross-section. It is easily bent back in shape to fit a 4x4 but because it is too large for a 3.5" x 3.5" 4x4, it springs back to it's un-square or trapezoid shape. Setting it in concrete with a post inserted to hold the form squarish will result in a slightly off-square hole anyway. All of this is minor though when compared to the amount of back/forth, side-to-side, and twisting play the post will have in the sleeve. It is excessive for my heavy swinging gate application. The material is flexible which would turn rigid once surrounded by concrete. However, exacerbating the amount of play are the longitudinal wavy ribs in its construction. I suppose the ribs are to let water flow through but there is a sealed bottom that you should drill and sit on gravel for drainage. I wouldn't use it where rigidity matters. Otherwise, it is useful where you want minimal resistance when removing the post.

So far so good. Fits tight on a 4x4 post aka 3.5"x3.5" post. I am using it as an entry point in my yard through my fence. this post can be removed so I can drive a vehicle in the yard. No issues so far. I drilled holes in the bottom for water drainage.
