Q: How long is the lamp pipe?

The lamp pipe is about 4 ins. long. But the lamp wire is not UL approved, it also tripped my circuit breaker. I had to change the lamp wire. I bought one on Amazon GE 8ft. UL approved and rewired the lamp with no problems. Just a word to the wise.

Q: How do you remove the base of the socket to connect the wiring? Instructions don't say and I don't want to go to prying it open as that might break it

On the side of the socket look for the word "press." Place your thumb there and press firmly then pull on the base and it should separate.

Q: I lost the instructions to the lamp- does the ribbed wire go to the gold screw or the silver screw?

silver wire is your ground wire

Q: Is there a kit that comes with a brown cord?

Not to my knowledge I haven't seen one that has a brown cord. But you can buy a brown cord.
