6P-free PVC is terrible: it does not feel soft
The China manufacturers of PVC inflatables should reinstate phthalate-based plasticizers, such as the Safe and Effective phthalate called DINP (Di-isononylphthalate). The non-phthalate PVC plasticizers give a poor quality PVC. DINP has been used to soften PVC for decades. We live in an age of health and safety paranoia and hysteria; the High Molecular Weight class of phthalates, such as DINP and DIDP, have been fully evaluated and are safe. Phthalates such as DINP and DIDP have the best compatability for PVC compared to non-phthalate plasticizers such as citrates, epoxidised linseed oil, epoxidised soybean oil, DINCH and terephthalates. The PVC material used in the inflatables of the 1990s and early 2000s was very soft- almost 'gummy' or rubbery. It had a strong (but pleasant) aroma. The material was sticky and made a nice 'rustling' and 'squeaking' sound. This is because the PVC was softened with DINP. The 6P-free PVC material, however, is terrible.
