Q: I'm having issues with focus, any recommendations for calibration?

Lookup “ghettocal” and follow the instructions to get the correct micro adjustments using the dock. Enter those values into the program that came with the doc and it will program them into your camera. Another tip...with this lens, you need to hold your camera very very still to avoid blur and support it with the cup of your hand (left thumb furthest from your face). Keep your shutter at 1/250 or higher at all times to avoid blur too. I find I can’t shoot it reliably at 1/125 and still get clear focus, probably because the lens is heavier than most 50’s.

It should be. The mc-11 is designed to work with all Canon-mount Sigma lenses. The adapter will also work with non-Sigma lenses in Canon mount but, perhaps, not quite as well.

Q: Will it fit my nikon D5500 on its own or does it need anything else?

It will fit just like any other F-mount lens and work quite well as a 150-600mm lens on your D5500.
