Q: Will this work on a flat screen TV?

At the moment, no light gun will work with modern flat screen TVs. ALL of them require an old style CRT type of TV. This is not a defect. It's simply how these light guns were designed and how the games were programmed. LCD, LED, and plasma TVs didn't exist back then. All TVs back then had tubes. The guns and games were designed with certain technology in mind. Flatscreen TVs do not operate the same way as CRT TVs.If you want to play Duck Hunt on a modern TV, I'm only aware of the version on the Wii U virtual console working with HDTVs. Nintendo reprogrammed that version to use the Wii Remote sensors, not a light gun. I used to own a Wii U, and I played that version.

Q: Will this work on a projector tv

It will not work. The light gun has to reflect IR light off the glass. Projection TVs do not have glass screens and should be interlaced and in 50/60Hz. At best, you might get some stray shots to register.

Q: does this work for duck hunt?

It does work with duck hunt. However, the zapper's technology Allows it to only works on the old fashion CRT tvs, but will not work on modern plasma or lcd tvs (don't know about projectors).

Q: Would this be okay just as an display item?

Yes. I actually own two and that is all there good for. If your a collector this would be a perfect item.
