Q: This literally says “under low gravity conditions.” Really? Where do I find those conditions?

In space. Where my neighbors also wouldn't have to listen to me scream in torment when I see questions like this on Amazon. ;)

Q: What keeps the hinges from getting loose? It doesn't appear to have any tightening knob or mechanism?

The hinge type used on this stand has many names. I've seen it called a torsion hinge, position hinge, torque hinge, friction hinge and a few other names but they all use the same design concept. This type of hinge is designed to allow for smooth adjustment of the position of the hinge while requiring a specific amount of force to be applied to the hinge before it will move out of position. The amount of force required for position adjustment is determined by the design of the hinge. A good example of this is from a company called Rockler that sells a series of high-quality torsion hinges requiring different amounts of inch-pound force (15, 30, 40, 60 inch-pounds) in order to move the hinge.In my opinion, the torsion hinges used on this stand are top-notch. Having purchased various torsion hinges from Rockler at $30 each, I would say that for the quality of the hinges on this stand, it's worth much more than the selling price.

Q: Does it block the back air vent on the Nintendo Switch?

Those aren't air vents, they're speakers. The air vents are on top next to the game card slot. This stand does not block the air vents at all.

Q: What material is it made??

I believe it is steel and not plastic. Very heavy duty and sturdy. I set my iPhone 7plus on it and iPad. I got one for 3 of my family for Christmas and they each have called to tell me they love it. I highly recommend!
