The National

So happy to finally have this album!
This was the last album I needed to complete my vinyl collection of The National! My husband got it for me for Christmas and I'm sooooo happy! It's their first album so not The National we're used to now, but amazing look into their beginning and getting acquainted with them 😊

A fantastic first album
Berninger’s lyrics were acerbic and tongue-in-cheek from the start. I don’t understand how they were placed into the alt-country genre but it doesn’t really matter I guess. “Pay for Me” alone is worth the price of admission with its loose guitars and drunken swagger storyline. You won’t recognize many similarities to The National of 2022 but it’s a fun listen nonetheless. This is a great record but not perfect and essential for any serious fans of the band

Boo! Track 3 skips
I was disappointed to find that my brand new cd skips on track 3. Otherwise, it’s a cool, mellow album.
