Q: How do you use this to unclog a heater core without damaging it from the pressure?

This is a risk. If your heater core is about to burst nothing can save you and would fail anyhow but if it is in good health it would survive the procedure without a problem. You just set your compressor to 45 PSI (max 60 PSI), plug this tool to outlet side of the heater core. Make sure the other side has long enough hose to get to large container where you would collect whatever is coming out. Turn the water on and start giving short 3 second air bursts every 5 seconds. So air 2-3 sec, wait 5 seconds and so on until you don't see anymore junk coming out from the heater core. I have successfully unclogged the heater cores on 2 of my cars this way and they are quite old. Keep in mind that you should flush your engine coolant system as well otherwise all the junk from there would get in the heater core and in few months it would be clogged again.

Q: I assume ":...one to a typical water faucet" is talking about a garden hose? Can Someone please verify how you hook this to a water source?

Q: Is the item exact as pictured i.e. metal housing and brass trigger? Or is it an all plastic?

I purchased this some time ago. It works great... The body (blue and black) areas are a composite plastic material which is very sturdy. the trigger (as I recall) is brass.
