Project playtime

I bought this to protect my Pi and I like the functionality and it’s a clean case.. I dig it. I can’t use my 3.5” touch screen and the breadboard at the same time but I can live with that, I’m not doing anything real with the display but show and tell. Again this is well made and a super clean fit great for small projects.

Overheated my Pi Zero - Beware of using for any extended time.

One instance of poor engineering knocks off two stars and one of poor manufacturing quality knocks off one from a five-star rating. The top two frame pieces have no cutouts in them for a heat sink despite the instructions saying to apply the heat sink to the Pi Zero prior to assembly. Their photos show no heat sink installed, which in this enclosed case could (and probably will) cause issues with overheating.I was able to cut away part of the second-from-the-top frame piece to allow the heat-sink to fit, but found that with the clear top piece I could not without more-or-less completely destroying it (Lexan and/or clear acrylic is a bitch to machine if you don't have the right tools), so I removed the heat sink and I'll have to limit use of my Pi somewhat until I can find a way to make the detailed cutout necessary or find a heat sink far thinner than any I've seen on the market to date. This needs immediate attention! The top two frame pieces must have cutouts for a proper heat sink! I can make limited use of this thing as-is, but I really think guys need to take this one back to the manufacturer and have them rework it and then offer replacement frame pieces either free or at a substantial discount to prior purchasers. For any extended use outside of very cool ambient conditions, this is not going to work. One of the six machine screws was just far enough out of tolerance that it was too large to fit into any of the t-nuts that together hold the case closedLuckily I had a second case (different, but with a similar machine screw/t-nut configuration) and was able to cannibalize it for a suitable machine screw. Likewise THAT case (also a Zebra case) had a t-nut that was a bit wobbly with the "normal" machine screws so the somewhat-too-large machine screw from this case fit it perfectly.Aside from the "Match Made In Heaven" aspect of that which was somewhat entertaining, it was only serendipity that allowed me to complete the build. I'm not sure who is ultimately responsible for quality control for the components that Zebra ships, but someone is dropping the ball there. Two kits, two wonky parts. That it worked out in the end is not something they should be allowed to fall back on as a solution.Updated: Reduced to 1 star. A few hours use of my Pi Zero as a low-level web-browser (nothing demanding) and it overheated in this case (no place to put a heat sink and the Pi is in a very enclosed space - no ventilation at all.Got some push-back from the vendor about why I rated this as not-as-described - I stand by that in the sense that it is absolutely unsuitable for any extended use unless and until the manufacturer modifies it to allow for a heat sink on the Pi Zero/Pi Zero W. The instructions that shipped with my unit clearly said to install the heat sink on the Pi before assembling the case, but it's not possible to assemble the case with the heat sink on the Pi.This would require cutting or removing the cross-member on the 2nd to the top piece and machining or otherwise forming a pass-through hole in the clear piece. If you have no need for extended use, this will probably work for you, but I've already lost one machine to this thing with just four hours of uninterrupted up time. I don't intend to lose another.I was told by the C4Labs rep that they would be pulling the current instructions card. If they don't get their site working soon, thats going to leave folks with no instructions at all (it was down when I tried to get to it and the same rep told me they were having "nightmare" problems moving their stuff to a new site).

Not bad :)

This started off as pretty sweet, but ran into a problem when I wanted to add anything to the pi as a 'hat'. The 'cobbler' I used (from Adafruit) worked ok, though I quickly wished I had like a 2 inch ribbon cable lol.I picked up a usb hub for it that uses the pogo plugs and had to put some holes in the bottom for the pins as well as get creative with the screws (tis a bit canted now...). I now have a redbear iot phat (phat? really? lol), but I'm gonna need to get a bit more creative... In the end this thing may not look at all like what it started! All that said, if you get yourself the new Zero W, and just want the breadboard, this is a great little 'toss it in your pack/kit' item. I like the wood - though being a bit of a texture person, I kind of wish it had a smooth finish (I know, now I'm just being picky picky). I'd probably still buy it again though. :)Also worth noting - the way I have it right now, the cobbler and cable combo started to pull the breadboard up a bit (even with the sticky) though it sat for a day before it started coming up - I'd recommend a different solution to the cobbler.

Great for Testing and Prototyping

This is a perfect 'case' for testing and prototyping with a Zero or Zero-W. Well built and very precise sizing and fit. It does include a mini breadboard that works but is of dubious quality.

The only piece that is "missing" is a heatsink

I found a really small heatsink that fits fairly well with just a small cut in the plastic. Now all I need is a header. I really like this design, partially because it is so basic.

Incomplete. No screws included.

Love it

Absolutely love this case. Also have the smaller version without the breadboard but with the heat sink port for a sister pi. Outstanding craftsmanship and very sturdy end build. Will be getting more cases from the Zebra line for future pi makes!
