Q: Does it work on any guitar? Electric a d acoustic?

Yes, this cable will work on any Electric or Acoustic Guitar as long as your acoustic guitar has an internal pick up and a 1/4" mono jack.

Q: Can I plug in to the guitar and use a phone as an amp?

Yes, you can plug your guitar into your phone but you need the proper hardware and software to do so. This Kirlin guitar cable will not allow to do that however. Essentially, you will need the iRig by IK Multimedia. They have a couple different versions and which one works best for you will be dependent on a few variables including what type of phone you would be attempting to plug into. I have also been wanting to use my phone as a preamp for my guitar and because of the phone I have (Galaxy Note 4) it appears that I would have to get the more expensive version (about $100) of the iRig as opposed to the $40 version. Q: Are these balanced or unbalanced?

These are unbalanced cables. You can tell by the picture of the jack - there are two metal segments separated by the little black section, tip and sleeve, which is why these are sometimes referred to as TS cables. Balanced 1/4" cables have three segments (tip, ring, and sleeve) and are also referred to as TRS.
