Better Options for the Money
For a while now I've been thinking about getting a decent yet inexpensive concert ukulele and based on the positive reviews and beautiful pictures I had high hopes for this model. When it went on sale I decided to give it a try and placed an order. Unfortunately I found that it didn't live up to the hype, especially when compared to the competition.PriceThe A100C tends to go for $90-100 but can occasionally be found as low as $80 which puts it in the same range as other decent entry level ukuleles. It also comes with a cheap but functional gig bag which would cost about $10-20 if purchased separately. I would expect the resale value for this ukulele to be low given the already low price, the fact that the brand is practically unknown, and the other details described below.AppearanceI wasn’t expecting the ukulele I received to look as striking as the stock photos and when I first opened the package I didn't think it was too bad but once I got a closer look it became obvious that I got what I paid for. In an attempt to make the A100C look fancier than it is Aosdin ended up making it look a bit cheesy, like showing up to a fancy event with a polyester suit and a clip on tie. I took photos to show some of the problem areas but oddly enough this instrument looks better in pictures than in person. The body is darker than the advertised photos and you can easily tell that it is laminate from the fake, symmetrical grain patterns. The abalone fretboard inlays look like clear glue with blue coloring added and the pointed inlays would look pretty except that some of the points are discolored from the dye used on the fretboard. The purfling and rosette are clearly imitation abalone, lacking both the shine and the depth of color. The headstock laminate is a lighter shade than the body and the slots in the headstock expose the laminate layer. The only decent aspect is the surprisingly pretty tuners. I also have to say that the fretboard inlays and headstock shape are suspiciously similar to some of the models offered by Amahi, their C-04 model for example.Build QualityThis instrument feels like a toy. There are numerous flaws in the finish. The laminate for the body was poorly constructed and has tiny dents all over. The bridge has what looks like a hairline crack on the right side along with small splinters sticking out of the edges from not being sanded. I don’t know if it is the gig bag or the instrument itself but both have a strong plastic smell. The fret work is acceptable but the fret wire is advertised as copper which is less expensive and less durable than the typical nickel silver material found on most instruments. Supposedly the nut and saddle are bone which is a nice upgrade from the typical plastic. The gig bag won't offer much protection beyond surface scratches and the side pocket is too small to hold anything larger than a new set of strings but it seems sturdy enough to use casually. Much like the appearance though the one standout aspect is the tuners. They have a solid feel and did a great job of keeping the strings in tune. It's also worth mentioning that I couldn't find any information on Aosdin other than conflicting statements on where the brand is based.SoundThe bone nut and saddle, Aquila strings, and slightly longer neck certainly contribute here. I found the sound to be a bit thin but still bright and pleasing. It doesn't have much resonance but projects well. I would want something nicer for a performance but for playing at home or with friends the A100C would do fine.PlayabilityThe weight seems to be evenly distributed though concert ukuleles are so small and light that this usually isn't an issue either way. The action is decent, maybe a bit high, and could always be adjusted. The intonation is pitchy in the upper frets but within the lower frets where most people will play it is accurate to a reasonable degree. As mentioned earlier the tuners help keep the strings in tune for a good while. The neck is comfortable throughout the registers.OverallIf I could give a half star rating then I would rate my purchase at 2 1/2 stars. Instead of viewing this as an $80-100 ukulele with a free bag I would consider this a $60 ukulele paired with a $20 gig bag. The $100 price tag is too much but at $80 I wouldn’t consider it a bad option. I do think that there are better alternatives for the money though and definitely recommend looking at those alternatives before making a decision. I actually purchased another ukulele from a different brand at the same time that I bought this one and after playing both for a few days I decided to return the Aosdin.

Never heard of Aosdin. Pleasantly surprised.
I've never heard of Aosdin, you can't really find anything about them online. Closest I got was a few forum posts of people talking about them. Apparently they're based out of Taiwan, but I could be wrong on that,I was drawn to this instrument, primarily because it's advertised as Koa, for this price it would be a pretty good deal. And yeah, it's kinda too good to be true. It's a Koa Laminate. They say it's HPL (which is some fancy lamination process to make it more resistant or something. Martin guitars uses it) I don't know the validity on it, but it's worth a mention.I like this ukulele. It's inexpensive, looks nice enough and sounds nearly as good as the top brand names. It's a beautiful looking instrument, and even if it's isn't solid wood it still sounds really nice, it comes with Aquila strings and all metal tuners. It's also nice that the nut and saddle are actual bone, you normally get a plastic on cheaper models. There are no stickers or any tags. No paper work. On the inside of the ukulele there is no serial number, it just had the model number. A100C printed on the label. It's a good weight, I notice this whole "convex body" thing or whatever thats said in some of the description. It feels nice to hold it. Its also very smooth. On to the nitpicks. The saddle is a bit high, nothing I can't fix. It still sounds perfect either way, it's just a bit more effort on the higher frets. The body doesn't look so much like some of the pictures. Kinda, flat looking almost. It has the gloss, but you can tell it's a laminate pattern pretty quick. All in all, should you get this? Are you "pro ukemeister" that only wants the most pure Koa? Then nope. But if you want to take a small chance on a company no one has heard of I say "Yeah" I'm pretty pleased with my purchase. It sounds good and can be made to sounds better. Are there better concert ukes at this price? Maybe, but like I said I was drawn to this one. It has some charm. The Aosdin logo is pretty striking.tl;dr It's a good ukulele. Not Solid Koa. Saddle is a bit high. Looks nice but not as nice as pictures. Sounds just as good as relatively priced models. Feels nice in the hand. If you want value, this is good value.
