Game changer,
After using this for a while I regretted not having one sooner. It goes everywhere thanks to being really bendy Slate course above valley; no problem.

Could be better
One thing I don't understand about this saw is why isn't the blade changeable? And since the producer already decided to screw its customers a bit, by making them spend another £33 when that short blade finally gets dull, why not at least make the whole shaft the thickness of the blade, so it's even easier to get under slates? Other than that I feel like it's an improvement over a slate ripper.

So much easier than using a slaters ripper.
Simple but very effective at cutting through nails to remove slates or tiles and unlike a slaters ripper you don't risk splitting the roofing lats as you're not yanking at the nails. The basic premis is a couple of long flat bits of metal with a 12" hacksaw blade sandwiched in-between them and a handle on the end but the principle works.Hopefully the hacksaw blade will be interchangeable but I haven't tried pulling it out with pliers or something so I won't know until I do.All in all I'd definitely recommend as it's not fun having to strip half a roof because you've bust the lats using a slaters ripper

Saved many broken slates on a Solar Panel fit
Slate roofs vary enormously and anything that prevents breakages pays for itself. Solar panels installations on slate roofs need many slates removed and this is quicker and more reliable on older roofs. New slates roofs may be a bit tight for a ripper and prising them back to loosen the nails often damages them but this device is thin enough to get in there. Ideal for less skilled diy user. Probably has other uses as well.

Slate saw
Good idea works ok but could easily have been designed to have a replaceable hacksaw blade

Excellent for removing broken slates
Absolutely brilliant - a lot of slates on my garden shed were broken by a falling tree - this made removing them simple and quick - it’s not cheap, but it works

Better than a slate ripper for galvanised nails
Brilliant tool easy to use on slate roofs. I have sawn out thirty odd slates and it’s still working fine. The blade is not removable but is still up to the task. My only quibble is that the hole at the point of the blade, presumably there so the saw can be hung up, sometimes catches on a sawn nail and can be difficult to release.

It did not work as hoped.
Please note I wrongly submitted a review for a slate ripper which broke, instead of this review for the slate saw. Many apologies! I had hoped this slate saw would be useful in removing slates by cutting through the slate nails - unfortunately on my traditional slate roof I found it very hard to use, the hole at the top of the blade caught on nails, but the sawing action was difficult & very slow & I gave up using it. The slate nails are fairly new, it might work better on old rusty nails. I was very dissapointed as both items I bought for the job (from two different suppliers) let me down & were expensive! water was leaking into my house! I eventualy repaired roof but what a battle for 3 slates! It would be very helpful if saw blades could be replaced as a lot of money for a single hacksaw blade in a holder.
