How big are the holes? Bigger than 1/16th"?

Our family uses these in all tubs/showers - definitely the best of several brands we tried over the years. We have not had any fail - but worth getting the 6-pack not knowing if they will be available forever. The smaller holes (they are trapezoidal shaped, not round) are about that 1/16th inch size - the largest are about 2 x 2.5 mm - so about 1-1/4 by almost 2 times larger than 1/16th of an inch. So, largest are about twice the 1/16" you were asking about. The largest are at the bottoms of the sides and around the outside of the top - then reduce down to almost 1/16" at the top of the sides and around the center of the top. These catch pretty much everything bigger than silt-sized dirt grains - all hair, grass cuttings, leaf bits, coarse sand, etc. Dramatically extends the interval between in-drain cleanings - from about every 6-12 months to once every 5 years maybe in our case. Of course, because they catch debris so well, you have to clean it off frequently - after every shower or bath if you lose a lot of hair or have a bunch of yard work or construction debris on you, to at least every 3rd time or so otherwise. When clean they allow the full shower flow to go down without backing up at all - don't clean it every time and you will start getting water backing up in the shower/tub because the debris on the holes restricts the flow down the drain, but it has to be treaty clogged to back up more than toe depth. Flexible enough to fit snugly over the drain so you don't get noticeable leakage or debris bypass under the flat rim. Wipes clean real easily if done when wet - just wipe around the inside (where there will be little debris but soap scum can build up to block the openings) with toilet tissue or kleenex, then around the outside. BTW - on drain cleaning when needed - since for pipe protection you should avoid drain cleaners when possible, plus they don't work great on hair. Most of the problem in tubs/showers is commonly hair caught over the crossbars in the drain, not actual pipe blockage - I use fine point needle nose pliers to remove the hair draped over the cross bars down in the drain, and also to reach own through the drain crossbars to the first bend in the drain, to pull out hair clogs - for us that does the job entirely - never have to use drain snake or drain cleaner in tub/shower.

how to keep it stay in place ?

I turn it upside down because my drain is large enough and it stays in place. I put another in my kitchen sink and do the same. My house was built in 1946. I am delighted with the product. I have two long-haired relatives in household. I don't need to call the plumber any more. Good luck.
