The Pied Piper of Hamelin Hardcover – November 30, 2017

I love the original version done in verse as it was meant to be read by Robert Browning. The illustrations in this version done by Janet and Anne Grahame Johnstone are AMAZING!!! I recommend this book to anyone who wants the original message of the pied piper.Also would be a good find to anyone who collects childrens art. (:

It was an inexpensive book - about $5.50, so what to expect from that… It looks like Amazon printed it the day I ordered it. The artwork is lovely but it looks like they stretched out small images on a computer so the pixels are low quality. The text was not thoughtfully arranged as the poetry is written. They could’ve done a much better job if they made the font smaller and arranged it better. A smaller book with smaller pictures would have been better than this average sized book with overly enlarged images.The writing is a bit difficult for children, but it’s still worth sharing with elementary aged children with some explanatory comments as you read.

WHY aren’t any of the reviewers mentioning the size of this book?! I feel like I’m taking crazy pills. It’s literally the size of the palm of my hand. Also, it isn’t Robert Browning’s verse, it’s a story BASED ON his poem. The only reason I’m not rating it one star is because I’m a sucker for anything nostalgic, but after purchasing this book I just feel like a plain old sucker.If use it as a stocking stuffer but it’s so old and crumbly I’m afraid my kid would crush it to dust just grabbing onto it.EDIT: I took the second star away from my rating because it was too generous. I realized the book IS MISSING PAGES. It was listed as being in “good” condition.
