Q: Does this unit come with a battery backup?

We have never shut the power off to it but we think it does have a battery backup.

Yes it can water twice a day and yes you can set odd/even days.

Q: I stripped the power cord and it says three colored wires (green/black/white) but I'm only seeing two (black/white)? Help? Im hardwiring this.

Not sure where you see the three wire. Manual shows on page 7 the black and white and how to wire to a junction box (direct). Hope this helps
