Q: the label in the photos shows reef safe, but it contains avobenzone & octinoxate which are not reef safe & banned in hawaii. what gives??

Hi, we are the manufacturer. To clarify a couple of things: 1. It seems you misread the label in the photo. This product does NOT contain Octinoxate. (It does contain with similar-sounding names - octisalate and octocrylene - neither of which has been banned in Hawaii). 2. Avobenzone, which is in our product, has not been banned in Hawaii. This product is in fact fully compliant with Hawaii's Bill 2571, which went into effect on Jan 1, 2021 and bans the sale of (non-prescription) sunscreens containing Oxybenzone and Octinoxate. Those chemicals have been proven to cause reef damage and we are proud to have eliminated both of them from our sunscreen formula this year, even though a very small portion of our sales happen in Hawaii. Our aim is to continue to stay at the forefront by adhering to Hawaii's reef safety standards while also delivering a high-quality product that delivers the protection our customers expect and demand. As science and the standards evolve, we will continue to evolve with them.
