just keeps getting better
A great space opera with relatable and well developed characters. The military action keeps you rooting for the main character, and the love story keeps you guessing how it will end. The best news is there are a ton of books in this series to enjoy.

Easy, Enjoyable Read
I’ve read this author before, and really enjoyed his Recon series. This story, probably all of his, follows a formula that others use and fail miserably. You’ll get it as you go.I was engaged throughout and embraced the characters. Character driven story as most good books are. Author uses magic or something, I don’t know.....Overall, as story unfolds, plot and storyline is not complicated but complicated because we’re dealing with people — characters emotions, feelings, morals and how they react to an array of adversity and a different reality — combat arms in a war.And he does it the old fashioned way — no multiple POV’s changing the story’s pace, despite this as #3 in series, author hasn’t stopped character development and doesn’t overwhelm you with improbable, nonstop action. Tho MC gets a little out of hand, here n there.Mil is good, strong but not great. And it doesn’t have to be. One bit of confusion for me — there’s Drop Troops and Force Recon. Is that it from ground pounder standpoint? I guess Force Recon is ingrained into my brain housing as an upper tier and then lower tiers below. After 3 books , also don’t understand why Recon doesn’t have weapons to combat OpFor Drop Troops. Just a peeve along with PC ratio — way too skewed. Since author former Army Officer, he’d be aware of US Army’s current dismay as they’re attempting to PC comply and the impact to performance.So......Not much science if that’s a major factor in your reading. Reasonably credible , characters I liked n embraced, good dialogue, story’s not complicated n easy to follow using words I can understand wo using a dictionary.Recommend but you have to read the previous two.

another great book in the series
The story continues with first Lieutenant Alvarez. A new adventure and more people dying, but our favorite protagonist keeps doing what he’s doing.

Good, good story.
Gritty, determined, occasionally scary, and with the love interest between the two main characters, makes it human!Abu Dabba, Dabba, dabbler

Exciting military science fiction.
Cam Alverez, born in Tiajuana, raised-if that is the word to use-in the dank underground borrows under the Las Angeles megalopolis has found his place at last in the Space Marines as a drop trooper. Drop troopers, jack-heads to the other marines, inhabit two-tons of battle armor, their Vigilante battle suits. They control the suits via a cable connection from the jacks in their heads that connect them with their suits. Otherwise, they could not control the suits with the reaction time of their thinking brains. Powerful suits they are, too. Cam has managed to reach the age of 23 but the physical and emotional scars keep building up. We get lots of high volume, up-close battle in this excellent series. We also get enough of a personal story with Cam and his fellow Marines that we actually give a hoot if the alien enemy, nasty suckers, turn them into dissipated molecules or not. If you like your military science fiction over on the edge of heart-thumping action, this is the series for you. I highly recommend this for fans of the genre. If you want long, twisting introspection and indecision by a character with blue hair sitting in his PJs and wondering about the nature of existence, you can skip this series.

Good “space marine” story but repetitive
I enjoy this series since I’m a fan of the space marine genre, but there is a very formulaic repetition to each book’s plot you notice after getting through a few of the series

Excellent
But enough of blood and guts, death and destruction... I need to get over the sick to my stomach sensation and get back to living my life in paradise. I have no idea if this author is actually writing about military realities... Realities that he or those he knows have lived... But I hope not!!! Maybe it's better if I don't know and just chalk it up to an imagination I'm glad I don't have!

Well written!
I don't say that a lot, well-written. Because it's an actual compliment to the thought process of the author. I'm right there, with everyone experiencing what they experience. Thank you for the rush, and the ride. Next book please.

I am hooked, i totally recomend this book.
I wouldnt know anything about command of other people but i understand that heavy is the burden of The Command. You learn to live and love your people and it just eats you piece by piece they go. I love it. Thank you and i already pre ordered book 4. Thank you again.

Ongoing future war saga
This continues Cameron Alvarez’s story as a platoon commander and the trials and tribulations he faces. These include his worries over his relationship with Vicki, his need to disobey orders at times, and the death around him, both his soldiers and the Tahni. He does just survive this episode to face the next, which I await enthusiastically.
