Q: With the 8 C batteries, this seems like it would be somewhat heavy. How well does it stay mounted on the wall if there is not stud behind it?

It definitely needs a molley or a stud

THE WIDTH IS 18 '' AS YOU KNOW THE PROJECTION IS ABOUT 4-5 " IN FRONT OF THE PICTURE / ARTWORK. THE LIGHT ITSELF IS ABOUT 2'' X 2''. IN MY CASE, THE FRAME WAS WIDE ENOUGH, & STRONG ENOUGH, THAT I ATTACHED THE LIGHT BRACKET RIGHT TO THE BACK OF THE BACK TOP OF THE FRAME. THE BRACKET DOES HAVE A BALL JOINT WHICH ENABLES THE LIGHT TO BE ADJUSTED SOMEWHAT ALSO, WHICH IS GOOD. A GREAT PRODUCT THAT REALLY ENHANCES ARTWORK. GARY K.

Q: For those who have had this for over a year or longer, is it holding up ok?

No - we use it only occasionally and while we find we have to replace the batteries perhaps once a year which is fine with us, we have found that the fixtures themselves only last about 2 years. We have had to replace them every other year which we find expensive, but since they are convenient and don’t have to plugged into a wall, we’ve continued to buy them. However, we feel that they are cheaply made.

Q: can you swivel the mounting bracket?

Yes, by slightly loosening the swivel bracket you can move the lamp up, down, left, and right. Once you have the angle that you require, just tighten the bracket to hold the lamp at that desired angle.
