Nomadland DVD [2021]

Having found the book extremely captivating, informative, sad, happy and revealing I had to try the film. I was not disappointed. Frances McDomand takes my breath away in her ability to breath life and reality into every role she plays. Her stunning ability and the wonderful cast of many of the ‘true Nomad’ cast have moved me to tears. I am so interested to learn more and bought a map book of the USA so I could explore and landmark the areas involved, but more, to just get my head around the nation of the USA. It’s a frightening place for this Brit to comprehend, Nomadland reinforced that view but also revealed the resilience of those who are subject to its unfair and marvellous expanse. Community is all and I hope that the communities that nurture and support their tribes, continue and provide hope to the onlookers who feel powerless to help the incredible injustice of the $ obsessed society.

This has fast become my joint-favourite film alongside my longtime favourite, The Way. It's beautifully made with incredible scenery and music which is both haunting and hopeful at the same time.The acting is phenomenal, many characters are played by themselves so there's a rare authenticity to the whole film. And of course the ever-awesome Frances McD!I read the book first, which was excellent, and although the film does have some threads which are not in the book, it's easy to see that they were introduced in order to tell the huge story of people's journeys to becoming nomads.Loved everything about this incredibly moving film. Thank you for making it!

This is a top movie with a brilliant performance from Frances McDormand. The cinematography is outstanding America looks very beautiful in this movie. Without plot spoilers its more of a mood piece not too many villains or disturbing scenes just illustrates an alternative way of life that I will probably never be brave enough to take on. Its a lovely film and I can see why it got all the awards in 2021. I highly recommend this film its amazing. You'll love it

Sadly, not a film I enjoyed. A bit too American and didn’t really get it. Classic Oscar material.

I have bought and viewed this movie, that has garnered many prizes worldwide and was awarded a number of Oscars, including the one for best director (Chloe Zhao) - a fact that was duly suppressed and vilified in China, where she was born.We have an outstanding performance by Frances McDermond and the film merits viewing.However, if I have any reservations about the plot and the stories it tells, it is the fact that (at times, at least) the film tends to romanticise and idealize the growing crowd of homeless drifters, making it feel like they are (only) kind of truly helpful and mindful people left in the United States, even if they are all all pitiful victims of an all-devouring capitalism - here exemplified by the relentless capitalist giant of Amazon, that nevertheless is always there to help these individuals with a job - and some warmth in their lives.How kind! If only it would be like that.Plus, the free advertising for Jeff Bezos and his Behemoth is hard to watch.Hence, not 5 stars from my side, but a recommendation nevertheless.
