CURT13542 Class 3 Trailer Hitch, 2-Inch Receiver, Fits Select Ford, Mercury Sedans

It is definitely very good quality. But I had some difficulty installing it in my 2005 Ford Freestyle. I watched the YouTube video and it looked fairly straight forward. But when I went to fish the bolts and spacers into the frame, I found the openings in the frame were way too small. I looked everywhere for another opening but there wasn't one. I then discovered the hardware did not include the self tapping 12mm bolt for the passenger side. The passenger side has an unthreaded hole as the mounting location.(see YouTube video). The hardware kit that came with this hitch we're consistent with the instructions that said to fish the bolt and spacer plate into that hole. But there was no way that bolt and spacer were going to fit through that smaller hole. Perhaps I got the wrong hardware but they match the pictures on Amazon's website perfectly. The YouTube video was consistent with my car frame. So it seems the problem is with the hardware kit and instructions that come with this. I had to enlarge the holes in the frame on both sides so I could get the spacers and bolts inside of the frame. I had to to tap(cut threads) in the mounting hole and then purchase a bolt and washer since the supplied carriage bolt wouldn't be work there. The YouTube video refers to a self tapping bolt for that location but that was not one in the kit. The included instructions and diagram showed that the spacer plate and carriage bolt were to be used in that location but that's incorrect. I'm a little puzzled as to why other reviewers here haven't had this problem. One reviewer did say he had to enlarge the access holes but no one mentioned a problem with the passenger side mounting location. I thought I received the wrong hardware but like I said, the pictures in the description match what I received. While it was a bit of a hassle, I did get it installed and I'm quite happy with the hitch.

Well designed fit for my 2005 Ford Freestyle. The end is even with the bumper, so it's not in the way. It came with a fish wire to pull the bolts through the large opening in the frame. The passenger front hole being smaller was tricky, because when I tried to fish the threaded part up as needed, it kept being redirected to another part of the frame instead of going back. I had to use a second loop wire from the back to the front of the frame to grab the wire going up in the front hole of the frame, but it did work, just needed some guidance. I was a bit concerned when at about the first step said to discard the original bolted hanger for the exhaust, but it's because the receiver has a notch on it for the rubber grommet to attach from the muffler, I had to soap the rubber since the new mount is so much bigger, but it will go on, and shouldn't slide off easily. They did good at making something that fits to the area so well.

Excellent craftsmanship, I work in a manufacturing facility that welds and paints steel all day long, so I can tell you this is some quality welds and paint.Ingenious design incorporates and replaces the stock exhaust hangar on my 2007 Ford Freestyle.Installation took me an hour by myself. I consider myself above average on mechanical abilities (I've swapped out engines and transmissions by myself in the past).The ONLY downside is that the forward, RH side of the receiver, calls for too short of a bolt to extend through the frame and through the receiver. I had to go get a longer bolt.Otherwise, on our Ford Freestyle, it tucks up so nicely under the bumper that the only thing you see is the receiver tube itself, and no other part of the weldment.Had it not been for the 1 bolt being too short (the other 3 are the right size) I'd have given it 5 stars.

Built like a tank. Probably the strongest part of my vehicle now. I installed it myself according to the included instructions which were accurate and included fish wires that worked like magic to pull the bolts through the frame channels and through the vehicle's mounting holes. As stated in the instructions I did have to slightly enlarge the channel access holes to allow the large bolts and heavy washers to enter the channel. I did add some C-clips onto the threaded ends of the bolts after they emerged from the channels before I disconnected the fish wires just as a precaution against accidentally pushing the bolts back up into the channel and having to retrieve them back through the channel which I felt would be very difficult. But as it turned out everything lined up very well and there was no mishap. I am very happy with the whole purchasing, delivery, self-install process as well as the product itself.

Bought thru amazon....they had one used for sale.....when it arrived it was brand new, only the box that it came in was a little used. Well worth saving about $40 over the new one. The hitch fit my 2008 Mercury Sable perfectly, no drilling needed. it took me about 2 1/2 hrs to install it myself, but I was taking my time. If I had to do another, it would be about 1 hour. The hitch receiver is well made....I am glad I got the 2", instead of the smaller one. I bought a bike rack for it and the 2" receiver just seems so very stable.

A little tricky to install, and I have put trailer hitches on two cars previously, but eventually it all worked out and seems Rock solid
