Great Addition to one of the best anime series ever
Bad news first. It is going to take forever for Viz to convert/publish the existing anime. If you know nothing about anime, there are several genres to choose from. It's not all robots and school stuff. Without getting into the technicalities, Hunter x Hunter is an adventure about a boy trying to follow his dad's footsteps. This concept enables this anime to appeal to a much wider audience. I consider it to be one of the better anime of all time. The first time I saw this anime selection was inside Walmart in DVD. I was hesitant to buy because I wasn't sure if it had the English Dub or English Voice Acting. There are already quite a few versions of this anime, and most of them have English subtitles. I love the original English subtitled version (Japanese language) myself. However, some years ago I came across a decent English Dubbing of this anime and somehow fell in love with it as well. In other words, purchasing this seemed like a waste of time and I didn't even know if it had English Dubbing. However I went back the next day to Walmart and purchased Volume One DVD. Viz did a really nice job as it turns out. The animation is a lot cleaner and the English Dubbing was flawless. So after watching a couple of episodes, I decided to check online to see if Viz had released another Volume, Volume Two. This is when I found out that, not only was Volume Two going to be released in a few months, but that they also had a Blu-ray version. I immediately purchased Volume One all over again in Blu-ray, and pre-ordered Volume Two. This was all some months back as of this date. The Blu-ray is even better than the DVD, noticeably so. This is the information I provide to you if you are considering whether buying this Viz Blu-ray is worth buying at all, and if it really is better. It is. Check, Check, and Win.

Not the original series
This is an edited review from a previous posted review. This is definitely NOT the original series that came out / was released in the late 90’s (subtitled) - around 2003-2006 (eng dubbed) I believe. This series is the remake that was released around 2011. This series was remade with certain episodes being removed, omitted and some scenes or characters being changed with some incidents during the series being changed or just flat out omitted. Most likely due to the preferred target audiences being kids. However there’s still enough violence and gory scenes to go around. Not too graphic but enough to get the point across. The original series is of course out of print and those who still have it whether subbed only or dubbed, it had a lot of dark instances that was believed to be too much for kids I’m guessing. First off, the series started much different than this series. About two episodes are missing from the beginning. Gon had an animal friend that got poached. And it’s child was left to survive. Later in the series, that child grew up when gon returned to his home island. Those instances were removed Also when Gon went to killuas home, the butler girl was killed for failing to keep Gon’s group from advancing. In this series, she’s just knocked out from a super fast pebble/rock.They also took out the whole zoldek family fights with Gon’s group. Don’t know why. Those were some pretty good fights. I’m currently in the middle of the greed island auction arc. But I definitely wish they’d re-release the Original series. But for now, you can most probably find it in online anime steaming sites

An incomplete story but one you'll want to experience again and again
A must own series [Manga and Anime wise]. Hunter X Hunter does what most anime series don't do, which is carefully and tactfully flesh out each character, even those who won't actually matter later in the series. The sense of mortality weighs heavily within this series, and the play on this world's politics isn't too deep it's done in such a way you're left fully immersed in the way things are in the world of Hunter X Hunter. The soundtrack is gorgeous and it evolves the further and deeper as this series goes. You will be on the edge of your seat, you will possibly cry [I say "possibly" because I don't cry much for anything fictional. Despite my love for HxH I've never cried for most scenes people have but it still held weight], and you will be frustrated that there isn't more.I think this is the longest running series that Madhouse has ever put their time in. I'm often left confused when people say Madhouse doesn't do 2nd seasons while this series has gone for over 143 episodes with their investment and man am I ever thankful they took this series in. Because the animation is definitely top notch but that's what you'd expect from an amazing studio like Madhouse. My one complaint is that this volume could've easily contained the entire Hunter Exam arc and the 3 episode arc which I won't name for sake of spoilers. But regardless it's finally being brought to the U.S. which is more than I could ever ask for. I can't wait to one day have every last single volume of this series on my shelves and watch it again and again. But this series is more than worth your time.

A slow burn start to the best long running anime
Hunter x Hunter feels like it was written by an intelligent person, which is a nice breath of fresh air in the sea of anime and manga that are endlessly churned out. It is based on the infrequently published manga comic series of the same name, created by Yoshihiro Togashi. The start of the anime slightly toned down the darker turn, so starting the anime series can feel rather tame when compared to the rave reviews by people saying it is dark. I would say this works to the show's advantage, as the series starts off kind of slow, the pace and tone slowly change with time to create a fantastic story speed and darker themes. These first 12 episodes are a great start to my favorite anime, and the low price should be an easy gateway to a wonderful experience.
