Can this can be used if you have a metal protection kickplate on the bottom of the door and cant remmove it, no sure if this will still install

Most kick plates are of aluminium or stainless steel. In both cases they will be pretty thin, say 1 to 2mm and you can (using a HSS drill) make a hole big enough for the screws to fit through. Suggest mark the plate (see instructions). Drill the top hole and insert screw and secure. Make sure the door stop is vertical, then drill through the bottom 2 holes and fit the screws. I have mine fitted to a very large shed door and works perfectly.

Can this be used outside on a gate, please?

Yes. We use them to keep our summerhouse doors open. No problems.

What is the total extendable length please? I have an outwards swinging back door and no back step so need it to be long.

I don't think this product will work for you. If you fixed it to the very bottom of your door it would only reach a max of approx 13-14cm.
