Takers Review by Ellen
Taking the Big ScreenA story of suave professional thieves and their meticulously planned heists. Takers proved to be an action packed thriller that should be on everyone’s watch list. With a star studded cast led by Paul Walker, Idris Alba, Hayden Christensen and popular rappers Chris Brown and T.I, Takers maintains the audiences unwavering attention through nearly two hours of action, drama and suspense. When the job of a lifetime is presented to the team by the fresh out of jail, and essentially exiled member, Ghost (T.I), tension starts to build. The Takers had pulled off a bank robbery just days before. And with only 5 days to pull off robbing an armored truck for 25 million, flawless execution and at least some level of trust is required. Now with two L.A.P.D detectives snooping around trying to solve the case, things only become more complicated. The common cops and robbers formula is played out, with many unforeseen twists. However, this film doesn’t present itself in a normal way, the “bad guys” aren’t just the predictable, repugnant bad guys and the Detectives aren’t necessarily the humble good guys. It’s easy to find yourself rooting for the Takers. Each member of the takers team is humanized, making them somewhat relatable and likeable. And the detectives are perceived as smart mouthed, workaholics, which make them almost off-putting.Idris Alba and T.I hold central roles, and their characters underlying conflict with one another really draws on the distrust that T.Is character has brought to the team of Takers. Nonetheless, some of T.Is acting was subpar, his characters cockiness showed through as somewhat cheesy and may leave you cracking a grin rather than being taken aback by the drama. But it is the high level of ongoing action and suspense that overshadows the characters lack of significant development and any other minor acting flaws that may occur. There is no time to dwell on things like a somewhat melodramatic romance scene or an unconvincingly intense conversational scene when there is always something else gravitating you towards the edge of your seat. The cinematography is fast paced, and the way the camera almost shakes during some of the most powerful scenes, really emphasized the performance in a remarkable way. I also found that the director and editors use of tools, like slow motion and close ups, really made for the most affective audience reactions. Clearly being able to see the looks the team members give one another, being able to feel the tension when things go wrong, all emphasized by the crafty use of these editing tools.Though the basis of this heist movie may not be original in its entirety, Takers allows for new aspects and relationships to be built, something that sets it apart and makes it its own. Not just a group of guys out for revenge, with an overused and generic plotline. But a calculated team, bonded and trusting, using their highly educated and perfected skills to achieve the ultimate payday. I would highly recommend this film, but encourage viewers remember to take some of the scenes, and concepts with a grain of salt.

WHY DID I HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS?
I was in the middle of this film - paused it - and when I returned a shortwhile later, it was no longer available on Amazon Prime unless I ordered and paid for it. Only because it was a good flick, I went ahead and ordered it only to then have it resume exactly where I had paused it when it was without additional charge. Someone explain this foolishness !

A decent attempt, but lacking in the major departments.
It's not the best 'heist' movie, rather predictable to be honest, but it still serves up a nice dose of action and locale. It also has a stellar cast with several big names...which, unfortunately, is one of it's biggest problems. The movie has the cast, but no character. We're given no real background other than vague hints at a previous job, drip-fed a few loose traits for some of the bigger characters, and they rely on just the names themselves to float the performance. Even Idris, one of my favorite actors, felt severely lacking in his role because there's just really nothing to care about him. Also, whoever chose fading rappers to slot into the main characters did this movie dirty, as they give the worst performances of the entire movie.Lastly, the ending....it's rushed so bad. Like they were on a timer or the movie wouldn't get made, I dunno. It just has no FINISH, which for a movie with this much set-up is a crime.Again it's not a bad movie, worth a watch if you're bored like I was, but it'll never stand up to the greats like Den of Thieves or Baby Driver.

Love it - Hate it
Great cast, I mean some real heavy hitters. Action packed movie. One of the best run scenes ever by Chris Brown. I just didn't like the ending. Go check it out.

really enjoyed this movie, -- lots of action -- and very intense, but great to watch!
I like action movies, and this definitely is an action movie. You will be glued to the tv watching so you don't miss anything. No snack breaks unless you p ut the movie on hold <G>. Great story, I had rented it first, then decide it was good enough to watch again, so I bought the movie. You'll enjoy it if you like intense, action, and lots of drama <g>....

Takers
