Worked fine for a few months, then wore out
The first few months were great, and it worked as advertised. Then out of nowhere it started slipping, failing to cut deeply enough to penetrate the lid. I would have to go around the same can sometimes 20 times before enough of the lid was cut that I could wedge a spoon in there and pry it back. I kept it in my junk drawer for the last 4 years for whatever reason, and just threw it out today and decided to come dig it out of my order history to review it.

Removes lids smoothly
There's a learning curve with this, but a small one, to get the opener seated right. Once you adjust from using a conventional can opener, which cuts the lid, to this, which breaks the seal between the lid and the wall of the can, you won't want to go back. This is much safer. The only down side to this design is the small opening into the inner workings - while it normally doesn't happen, stuff can get into this and then it would be difficult to clean out.

Great can opener
I bought this product to replace an old can opener. The product is a little difficult to figure out how to use at first if you have never used one before and it does not come with instructions. It also takes quite a bit of force in order to turn the knob to open the can which makes it hard for my wife to use. However it works well and I love that it opens the can without having a sharp edge. It is also light weight and fairly small so it does not take up a lot of drawer space in the kitchen. When using the product it does not clamp into the can like an older style can opener rather it pinches onto the side and cuts without a sharp edge. Sometimes it doesn't look like it had done anything either but you just need to lift the top off. I would definitely recommend this as a quality and affordable can opener.

Best yet!
I appreciate this design because it allows me to hold the jar with both hands while opening the lid. The "wrench"-type openers require holding the jar with one hand and the wrench with the other. Sorry, but that's not going to work with arthritic hands. This, however, works a treat. Very happy. Easy to install (especially easy for me since my husband did it--but I could've if needed).

Handy for Those Two Handed Jars
Handy dandy for when you need two hands to open a jar, it can still be difficult, but without this gadget, I would not be able to open those impossible jars. It still takes a lot of muscle on some of those vacuum sealed jars!!

Great product. Only complaint is that I wish the description did not say for the elderly! I am not elderly but do suffer from RA. This is a perfect product for anyone of any age that is suffering from arthritis or any other conditions that limit their ability to open jars easily.

thought this would be a good replacement, but not
Does not work well.... needs a different gripper than the smooth gripper. I had a Pampered Chef opener years ago, which worked perfectly.... left in house when moved. It's been discontinued.... thought this would be a good replacement, but not.

HIGH QUALITY! Well worth it!
The AKAZA can opener is perfect for those wanting a smooth "safer" way to have an open can. I am truely impressed with the QUALITY of this product!. It is NOT cheapy by any means, yet has a great price!. It opens cans effortlessly too. You will be happy with your purchase I am certain.
