Mir kommt es darauf an, bestimmte südamerikanische Fischarten mit regionalem Bezug zusammen zu halten. Mit dem Buch bekommt man einen sehr guten Eindruck zur Verbreitung. Bei großen Gruppen wie bspw. Panzerwelsen der Gattung Corydoras, ist die regionale Auflösung natürlich nicht scharf, da es viele Arten gibt, die weit verbreitet sind. Dann ist das ganze Gebiet Verbreitungsgebiet. Hier wünsche ich mir manchmal eine schärfere Auflösung. Aber auf Artniveau wäre das ein riesiges Werk mit mehreren Bänden. Bei Gruppen mit nur wenigen oder einer Art ist es sehr aufschlussreich. Für den Preis ist deutlich mehr drin, als ich erwartete.

This is an excellent reference for learning about the many families and individual species of fishes living in the Amazon Basin's system of rivers. I have traveled within the Amazon Basin ten times over the past twenty-five years, looking at birds in particular and everything else in general. Now, this is one of the many books I am reading to learn about all the plants and wildlife that are in danger of extinction in the Amazon Rainforest. When I feel that I am much better educated on the plants, insects, fishes, reptiles, amphibians, and mammals, I will return and surely have a greater appreciation than before. Michael Goulding's book "Amazon - The Flooded Forest" is excellent at explaining the interesting lives of many of these fishes.
