Besides the battery is there any reason to purchase the 7155 versus the 3053? Is having a more powerful motor helpful for longevity? Is it noisier?

7155 is the queitest garage door opener I have ever had the pleasure of owning. Ours came from Costco on sale for $179.99, $194.84 with tax in Texas. Home Depot installed for $77. Took installers all of 30min, with me asking questions. Worth every penny, you won't be sorry. Battery, Wifi and smartphone access is just the cherry on top.

Does this have metal or plastic gears?

The gears are plastic and if you don't let the belt go out of adjustment to loose I don't see a problem with them being plastic I have had my opener a stealth belt drive for 6 months and works like a champ now I'm buying one for my Father to replace his worm drive old as the hills opener motor finally gave out but it was a loud opener

Is this genie 7155 soft start soft close??

Yes with the right spring tension and the start and stops programmed nice and quiet and soft not herky jerky
