Great bluray player with only 2 easily fixed downsides.
I had a cheaper no name bluray player that kept spitting out the discs at random so I decided to buy a more reputable one and I'm happy I chose this one.I only received it today but tested it with both a bluray and dvd movie. Please keep in mind I already subscribe to cyberlink software that includes power dvd. They both played all the way through with no stutters and no ejecting the disc at random. It reads the discs very well but cannot comment on burning or ripping them. The stand does feel like cheap plastic but it is sturdy and easily attachable. I have it stood vertically and it looks nice enough whilst not taking up too much space. My only problem is when it stands vertically, the discs feel as though they will slip out before it enters the player. There is a little grip at the bottom when you insert them but they look very unsteady. I did not have a problem with them slipping out but will edit this review if they do. This problem can be easily solved though by making it sit horizontally. The biggest downside is it does not come with a UK plug, it is a 2 pin European one, and I do not think the software included includes playing bluray without a subscription. I did not take a star off due to already being subscribed to Cyberlinks software and already owning a 3 pin plug adaptor for the 2 pin plug to fit into.It may seem quite expensive but this is one of those 'you get what you pay for' products that I recommend highly if you are looking for a great bluray and dvd player.

Works with Mac, but bundled software for PC only.
The quality of this drive is solid with a robust albeit plastic casing and an aesthetically striking design.Burning seems reliable and quick, I haven't tested on PC but performance on Mac systems with appropriate software (See paragraph below for details) is quick and reliable.Setup of the drive itself was easy, although if you have a Mac there is one major caveat: The bundled software is for PC only. so if you need authoring software then you will need to find a solution that works for you, which if you have an M1 or M2 Mac could prove a problem as Roxio Toast, the former market leader in burning software for Mac computers has a somewhat spotty reliability record on these newer machines. This is not a reflection on the drive, which remains a solid piece of kit, but more indicative of the less than pro-active attitude many software companies have towards keeping ahead of the curve regarding software production for the Mac platform. These software niggles are in no way the fault of Asus, nor are they exclusive to this particular drive, just something to bear in mind if you have a newer M1 or M2 Mac.

Works for 4K backup after flashing
Bought this drive for 4k backup. Flashed it by following intructions on MakeMKV forums. Google "Ultimate UHD Drives Flashing Guide Updated 2025" Drive Flashed perfectly enabling LibreDrive mode and can now read UHD discs.

Old Fashon style but it is what I wanted. Not any more.
Its expensive, it's not the latest style, but it's right for me.I've had on of the new CD drives with the horrible click to secure style & I have always disliked it as Im always worried about not loading the disc correctly & lets not even talk about removing the disc.Disappointed I had to buy a Uk power lead as this was only supplied with a 2 pin euro version.Generally very happy, not fussed about playing Blu Rays, DvD's, I just wanted a CD Rom like this.Rip's CD's to my Mac at a good speed & has been of perfect quality. And before anyone questions what I do I, rip my CD's so I can play then off my Mac & I store all of my CD's (and I have a huge collection) as I don't have the space in my room.I recommend this CD to anyone needing a quick, reliable, efficient device with a power plug (see previous note) and excellent functionality.Mid May 2025Disc has started to fail. Miss reads discs not being read.I’ve reverted back to my old CD / Blu Ray and despite my reservations works perfectly.I can’t recommend this disc any more and have dropped the star rating.

Great, expecially for MakeMKV
This drive is awesome, it's fast, needs no special driver updates to work and is literally plug and play!If you're buying this for ripping then it's perfect, it works awesome with makemkv and gets dvd ripped in roughly 10 to 20 minutes and blurays in 15 to 35 minutes. I'm yet to try ultra 4k dvds yet though. It's slightly on the louder side, however, if you have headphones on they it drains it out and the sound isn't winy or high pitch so it isn't ear piercing or anything. It's so good and easy to use that I ended up buying two!

ASUS BW-16D1H-U PRO external USB 3.0 16X Blu-ray writer
Drive works fine however......1. This is the retail package supplied with a software suite containing Power DVD 14, Power2Go 8, amongst other packages.I cant' speak for the other packages but Power DVD 14 is really old hat considering the up-to-date version is currently v24. Software updates are no longer available for this product and only a product upgrade is being offered currently for around £60.I would of much preffered a more up-to date version of this software rater than the 'Free Shopping Bag' that is included.Whilst I can't find a manufacturing date on the packaging, I suspect it's quite old stock.2. UK Fig-8 power lead not supplied. Not a massive deal I know, but if this item is being sold in the UK it ought to have a standard UK plug
