Supposedly about stalkers, but the author shines the light squarely on himself
I think talking about myself would be a more apt title. The author seems to find himself much more interesting than his subjects. His tone is incredibly patronising, offering groundbreaking gems like telling women it’s not a good idea to get in a stranger’s car. He laughs at the idea of men holding up dresses against themselves in shops and tells the reader all about the special commendation he received. He continually references later sections of the book instead of getting into the meat of the subject, or points to his other books instead of actually describing the subject matter in detail. Considering the point of this book is hearing directly from the criminals themselves he mostly talks about his own thoughts and feelings.Reading this has felt like the crime novel equivalent of being stuck on a train next to a man talking too loudly on the phone because he wants everyone to hear how interesting he is.This book is lazy coasting on what would be an interesting career, if he wasn’t so obnoxious.
