All good movies. Don't know what Goonies has to do with Gremlins, other than it being made in the 80s and starting with the letter G. Goonies is an adventure movie, while Gremlins is a dark comedy. Gremlins 2 is more of a comedy.

Excellent value for 3 classic 80's adventure films on high-def Blu-ray
I finally managed to finish watching all 3 of these films. This 3-disc triple feature Blu-ray collection is an exceptional value, especially if you're a fan. A great value if you're merely curious or looking to take a stroll down memory lane and don't want to spend too much. I love the original GREMLINS and enjoyed GREMLINS 2 as well, though nowhere near as much. While for me GOONIES is the `throw-in' of the bunch.GREMLINS was (and still is) an outrageous action comedy with definite horror overtones. The film is heavy with in-jokes for movie buffs. The creatures are inspired and little Gizmo is just about the cutest thing ever. A fresh-faced Zach Galligan does his best to hold the film together portraying Billy Peltzer, an idealistic young bank teller who daydreams of being an artist. Thankfully, Galligan has ample help in the form of yummy Phoebe Cates. Co-star turns from Polly (Flo from TV's "ALICE") Holiday, loveable teddy bear Hoyt Axton and snarky Judge Reinhold add to the fun, along with solid contributions from genre yeomen like Dick Miller, Scott Brady & Keye Luke. The action is frantic and the story is a crazy roller coaster ride of silly scares. Good times.GREMLINS 2 is basically more of the same, only now everyone is in on the joke. The movie makes fun of itself in almost every way possible. Director Joe Dante must have had a blast piecing it all together. Once again he adds TONS of in-joke references: sight gags, character names, dialogue, you name it. Pop culture gets skewed sideways here. The in-joke stuff goes even farther to include the actors themselves. There's Henry Jones, John Astin, the always reliable Robert Picardo, the rascally voice of Tony Randall, a delightfully clueless John Glover doing his best Donald Trump, and the evil yet somehow innocently silly Christopher Lee all along for the ride. This movie is part GREMLINS and part AIRPLANE! The end result feels a little forced and uneven but you certainly can't say Dante didn't do his damnedest to entertain ya.I caught bits & pieces of GOONIES on cable over the years but never saw it all the way through until now. For me, it is easily the least of the three films in this collection. Fans will no doubt feel slighted, but bear with me. Watching this as an 8 year-old was probably a total rush. Seen first run through a young boy's eyes this was likely a thoroughly engaging, exciting adventure film. However, finally watching it from beginning to end as an older adult, the script is shockingly bad; sloppy & condescending (the pirate is named "one-eyed Willie" Get it? Hardy, har-har!), Too, the acting on almost all accounts is downright terrible. It borders on slapstick Three Stooges antics at times. For me it was hard to believe Richard (Superman) Donner directed this and let it go as-is. Just yuck. Again, a young kid would probably still enjoy this. Me, now? Not so much. I hope all you GOONIES fans will forgive me. ;-)All three movies look & sound great, though I had to adjust the volume quite a bit on GOONIES to hear the dialogue without getting my ears blown out by music & sound effects. All the special features found on the individual releases appear to have been retained when bundled for this 3-pack. It's a terrific bargain for the price and a decent video shelf space saver as well. 4 STARS
