Great classic pickguard with still some room for improvement
Replaced the stock plain black pickguard on my Fender Made In Japan Hybrid II Jazz Bass (which follows USA specs) with this tortoiseshell pickguard. The fit is virtually perfect and my bass looks cooler now. There are some micro scratches but they're perfectly acceptable, and there is no plastic product that's actually scratch free anyways. There is some room for improvement though.- Packaging was extremely thin for something that can easily be scratched. Part of the pickguard was jutting out of and through the plastic packaging AND the envelope when I received it. Thankfully there was no visible damage. Either Fender or the seller should at least wrap the product in hard plastic or cardboard or something.- The color could be a bit more vibrant and reddish. In poor lighting, it looks extremely dark brown. I've owned an American J bass before with a tortoiseshell pickguard, so I should've expected this. I don't mind it though. It's better than those overly bright printed tortoiseshell pickguards.

Beautifully made
I am using the body of my '00 American Standard Jazz and the neck of my '16 Flea Jazz to build a super bass. I want it looking nice and not ragged like the roadworn Flea finish. So I had to get a new pickguard to be the cherry on top. This tortoise PG has a wonderful grain and a lovely shine. I'm done with grungy basses!

High quality and looks great!
This pickguard is a great visual upgrade for any Jazz Bass. I used this on an Affinity series Squier J-Bass and it makes it look like a totally new guitar. If you plan on putting it on a Squier J-Bass like I did, be aware that you will have to drill different holes in your guitar, as the stock ones do not line up with this pickguard. You will also have to file the neck and pickup holes to make it fit. I would rate this lower for people who want a perfect fit on a Squier J-Bass but that is not what it was intended for, so I gave it the full five stars its quality deserves. Another reviewer also stated that there is a small round notch at the neck that is not shown in the picture, and the one I received also had the circular notch. I don't mind the way it looks though. I love this pickguard and it may fit Fender Jazz Basses well but keep in mind that modification will be necessary for Squier Basses.

Made my plain jane jazz bass pop
Looks great. However, it took a little bit of fitting in the neck and pickup area to fit on my circa 1999 Standard Jazz bass. Much closer to a drop in fit than non Fender pickguards I had tried in the past though. Took about 15 minutes to tweak it enough to get it on.

Good deal, but be careful!
This is a solid deal for a new, genuine Fender pickguard. Arrived exactly as specified. BUT BE CAREFUL! THIS DID NOT FIT MY 20 FRET MIM STANDARD JAZZ BASS. The pickguards do vary slightly depending on whether you're working with American, Mexican, 20 fret, 22 fret, etc. I'm not sure exactly which model this one is designed for, but I can tell you it's not the 20 fret MIM.

Old Stock -- Shrunken and Warped
This is the correct Fender item, but the stock is too old and has degraded. If these pickguards are not installed in a reasonable period after manufacture they shrink to a surprising degree and curl up to the point they will not lie flat nor properly align with the mounting holes. Everything becomes slightly skewed. This has been a problem for decades with this plastic. The only solution is to get constantly rotated fresh stock from a major Fender parts dealer. These pickguards are too old.

Fits fine, looks good
I used this on a recent MiM body/neck, and it fits good, with a few caveats. First, it has the truss rod adjustment notch at the heel of the neck, and my neck does not, which isn't a big deal to me, but it might be for you. Also, recent MiM basses (I don't know which year) have the same size neck pickup as the bridge, which may be slightly larger than the hole here. I used aftermarket pickups, so no big deal, but I did size it with the stock one (from a 1999), and it was too big. Also, the color of this is more of the "brown" tort, which is what I wanted, but if you're looking for the more "red" tort, this is not it.Lastly, and this is stupid, but this has clear film on it, just like a new bass would, but it doesn't have any stickers on it announcing the make/model/series/etc, so it's not as obvious. Peel that off carefully, starting at a corner, and you're good to go.
