Outstanding
I purchased this waterstone after trying a number of other sharpening solutions without getting the results I wanted. I finally broke down and bought it, never looked back. With the 1000g side, I work the blade and produce a slurry, making sure to add a little water when it's looking a bit dry. Dunk it back in the bucket to wash it off when I'm changing grits, on to the 6000g side. It's an amazing block, I can easily achieve mirror finish on my blades. I mostly sharpen scandi-grind blades on this, so if that's what you're shooting for, it's perfect. Just be careful about your angles, it's very easy to create a divot/pit in these stones, they're very soft. If you do manage to cut the stone, use another stone like a diamond plate, to flatten it back out.TL:DR, keep it wet, keep an eye on your tip angle, be amazed at your sharpening prowess.

Perfect for my Shun knives ( and razor blades too )
Got it after taking a knife skills class and learning the proper way of sharpening. I was leery of sharpening my straight edge razor blades and my chef's knives even though I thought I was pretty decent with sharpening lesser blades. After seeing that I was doing it wrong and learning the proper way, got this stone and results are amazing.I can shave with my kitchen knife, that's how sharp it is now.Make sure to soak the stone at least an hour in water before use and keep adding water to the stone for lubrication as you sharpen the blade.

The King water stone has the two perfect grits for a beginner or a pro. No real instructions with this, but you can learn on you-tube. It really puts a polished sharp edge on your knives.

this is an amazing combination stone that worked well for me even at a beginners level. I would definitely recommend purchasing a king kds stone again in the future.

Decent stone for the money, especially for the beginning or casual user
I bought the stone as a gift for someone that I am not sure will use it. The stone itself seem to be a decent stone for the casual or beginning user user, and I suspect many others will find it works quite well for them.Keep in mind that I use multiple separate water stones to sharpen several brands of expensive Japanese knives. "Not those decent but severely overpriced ones whose name is similar in pronunciation to the last syllables of mushroom"

It arrived completely broken.
It came in a envelop, protected with bubble plastic. The package was in perfect conditions, however the product was broken in a lot of different ways. The edges were broken, the line between the two stones was broken. Don't buy it, chances are it will come the same way then mine.

I'm not an expert sharpener, but this stone takes a ton of effort to get my blades even marginally sharp/honed. I much prefer other methods and am hesitant to invest in more expensive stones after my experience with this one.

Gets Blades Razor sharp!
I have owned about 6 small stones over my lifetime. I hunt and fish a lot and needed something to get my knives back in razor sharp shape. The small Arkansas and Ceramic stones are fine for small pocket knives, but for larger knives I needed something bigger. This combination stone fit the bill. I soaked it in water and used the Steelex D1091 stone holder and went to work on them. After developing a good burr and removing a part of that, I then used a leather strop with green abrasive and I ended up with a blade that could shave hair. Very happy with this!
