Leather Terror [2 LP]

I don't give out many five-star reviews; something has to be near-perfect for me to do so. As good as the Trilogy collection and Leather Teeth were, this may surpass both. Imaginary Fire, Straight Outta Hell, Lipstick Masquerade, and the title track are all incredible. Several others on the album are just a hair below that. This probably sits on top of the synthwave genre. Highest possible recommendation.

Many fans may be dissapointing due to Carpenter Brut new direction, different from his early works, but it's still a good LP, he can mix synthwave with metal (darker than he did in Leather Teeth) with good results; and at the same time put some classic synth and another more oriented pop disco tracks.If you're a metalhead and also likes darkwave (besides Perturbator, Gost or Dance With the Dead) you must listen this.

I am going to ruin my car's speakers with this one. They talk about tuning down electric guitars to play heavy metal, Carpenter Brut just tuned down a g****** synth board!

I loved most of the Trilogy EPs but none of the releases since then have grabbed me.I pre-ordered this LP on the strength of the single with Greg Puciato alone and am listening fresh apart from that.Firstly, the pressing is great. Flat and sounds absolutely stellar. The only downside is the sequencing. Day Stalker is on side B but Night Prowler on side C. The tracks are supposed to flow into each other so that’s an utter mood killer unfortunately.This feels like the best version of a CB album so far to me - there’s a good mix of songs with great turns by Greg Puciato and I was blown away to hear Garm from Ulver too. The other vocalists are less known to me but suit their tracks perfectly.The instrumentals are bangers as you would expect from the man that gave us Roller Mobster. Really impressed with this whole LP. Best release of 2022 so far for me.

The 2nd album in the Leather Trilogy, much more metal than Leather Teeth with some great guest musicians including GUNSHIP. Very heavy!

"Leather Teeth" aus dem Jahr 2018 ist nach wie vor mein liebstes Synthwave/Darksynth-Album - auch wenn sich der Franzose Franck Hueso alias Carpenter Brut auf seinem ersten richtigen Album schon von seinen eigentlichen Wurzeln entfernt hatte. Es gab also keinen reinen Darksynth wie auf den ersten drei EPs (die zu der Compilation "Trilogy" zusammengefasst wurden) mehr, sondern es wurden zum Beispiel auch sehr rockige Klänge angeschlagen. Vier Jahre später steht nun der Nachfolger "Leather Terror" am Start - den 2020 erschienenen Soundtrack zu dem Film "Blood Machines" klammere ich an dieser Stelle einmal aus. "Leather Teeth" ist auch so etwas wie ein Soundtrack, allerdings zu einem fiktiven Film - einem 80er-Jahre-Slasher, um genau zu sein. Kein Wunder, dass "Leather Terror" daran anknüpft. Das lässt ja schon der Name erahnen.Nach dem Intro "Opening Title" schlägt Hueso mit "Straight Outta Hell" beinahe schon eine Metal-Richtung ein, auch wenn die Synthies hier nach wie vor dominant sind. Es folgen relativ rockige Songs, auch gibt es viel 80er-Pop der kraftvolleren Sorte zu hören. Nach hinten raus taucht dann auch wieder vermehrt "klassischen" Darksynth auf, ehe beim abschließenden Titeltrack wieder die Metal-Keule geschwungen wird. Deutlich angestiegen ist die Anzahl der Lieder mit Gesang: Waren diese vorher in der Minderheit, halten sich Instrumentals und Gesangsnummern nun die Waage. Dass das alles auf hohem Level passiert, überrascht mich nicht, Huseau hat schließlich Ahnung von dem, was er tut. Nun muss ich aber auch sagen, dass mich "Leather Terror" nicht so in seinen Bann ziehen konnte wie sein Vorgänger. Das neue Album ist richtig gut, überhaupt gar keine Frage. Vielleicht liegt es auch an mir und "Leather Terror" hat mich einfach auf dem falschen Fuß erwischt. Doch volle fünf Sterne sind diesmal aus meiner Sicht nicht drin. Zumindest nicht ganz. Das ist aber nur ein kleiner Kritikpunkt, Carpenter Beut gehört noch immer zum Besten, was das Genre zu bieten hat.

Seguo la synthwave da quando è nata e apprezzo molto come si stia sviluppando. Dopo Trilogy questo è in assoluto il miglior disco di Carpenter, più violento del precedente è più completo sotto ogni aspetto, dalla produzione al songwriting
