Product: Hip Girl chinese bitter melon Rating: 5/5 (excellent, so far) I gotta say, i'm very pleasantly surprised at the excellent germination** rate for this brand (see pics: 4 of 4 seeds germinated, and were 3" tall by day 10, and by day 16 had 2 tiers of true leaves deployed). By day 50 the tallest was already pushing 59" (see pic #3, taken during preliminary hardening). By day 69 they're alk 6 & 7ft tall, and overtopping their 6ft stakes (pic #4). I planted kinda early, so its a race to harden them off before theyre too big to move. The last pic shows them next to the trellis I setup for them. Should begin flowering any day now, and since its only mid-may, I may start a 2nd crop. Anyway, I adore cooking bitter melon, and because prices have gotten crazy since covid, this will be my first time trying to grow my own. I wasnt thrilled at having to pay $7 for a mere 10 seeds, but I rolled the dice, and so far, this brand seems to be excellent. Recommended. GROWING TIP: I made one major mistake here in zone 7 ... i started mine much too early (early march), so by the time the evening lows were warm enough not to damage them (i.e., 55F+ around memorial day in late may) they were already unmanageably large (6ft+) and clumsy to maneuver (6ft+ tall), and they were painfully slow to harden off because all the leaves and stems were thin and delicate. I recommend that, if starting them indoors from seed, then climate and time of year permitting, it is best to not start them too early ahead of planting, and to harden them promptly while still fairly young (under 12-18" tall), otherwise it can take a LOT longer. ------ **To explain: Seed viability for bitter melon depends 100% on whether or not the seeds were processed correctly during harvest ... just like tomato seeds, they must undergo at least 1-3 days of natural fermentation before being rinsed & dried, or they will NEVER be viable, and even if processed correctly they only remain viable for 1-2 years. Naturally, most smaller seed purveyors either cant or wont offer adequate information on one or both of those critical factors, so buying from a reliable brand that does is essential. UPDATE (July 7th 2023): Wow, 4 seedlings turned out to be plenty . . . It was delightfully easy to take 3-tier cutting from lateral creepers, which would root in 7 days flat. I added 3 more pots, this time with 2 seedlings apiece, and I even gave rooted cuttings to q friend. I also have my first baby melons emerging, and its still only early july.

Seeds don't germinate even after a month.

We're going to have to plant only a few seeds next season. We got a huge and continuous crop of Bitter Melon and had to give most away.

It works like a charm. Only problem is that all buds got destroyed by garden insects.

The seeds didn't germinate and I couldn't get back, Also, the package comes without discription. Very disappoint!

They didn’t even sprouted! What a waste of money and time. And when I squish the seeds to check it out, it was hollow!

Really had my hopes up with this to lower my bp. It grew vines all over the place. It needs to be pollinated and when I pretended to a bee, the flowers are super delicate and fall off ??? C

I just started growing this May. I used the a heat map that set at 80F for germinating 5 seeds. All seeds 5 seeds germinated. To experiment when is best to transplant outdoors, I started to transplanted them outdoors since mid May every several days apart. For the purpose of the seeds, I will say the germination rate is very good. It will depend on my "black thumb" to keep it growing. Fingers crossed, and I am only wishing 1 out this 5 seed that germinated will survive.
