Swan's Palette

If you're in Atlanta, treat yourself to lunch at the Swan Coach House, on the grounds of the Atlanta History Center. Chances are, you'll find yourself craving the recipe for at least one item on the menu. In that case, track down a copy of "Swan's Palette," an (unfortunately) out-of-print compilation of recipes for everything from beverages and starters to salads, breads, entrees, and desserts. (I told my husband that I was going to cook my way through the book.)The recipe collection was published by the Forward Arts Foundation of Atlanta; this nonprofit group operates the Coach House restaurant and gift shop, with proceeds used to support the visual arts in Atlanta. So while you're enjoying "Spicy Black Bean Salsa" or "Holiday Cranberry Bread" or the Coach House's signature "Frozen Fruit Salad," know that Forward Arts Foundation of Atlanta is not just cooking up delicious meals; they are helping artists as well. Disappointed that current menu items were not in the book. This was my first visit to Swan House, my daughter took me when I was visiting Atlanta, fell in love with the pastry cups the chicken and shrimp salads were served in. Frozen fruit salad was different than the recipe in the cookbook. I am looking forward to trying some of the recipes in the book, thought the history was lovely.
