Post Protector - Decay Protection 6x6x42

I installed this log protector on a standard 6 x 6 wood post from a major chain hardware store- Lowes (so actual dimensions, 5.5" x 5.5"). While tighter is definitely better than too loose, this protector was a bit too tight and it split at the seam while I was inserting my log (see photo). I didn't want to hold everything up for just this, and the split was towards the bottom where protection isn't as important, so I used it anyway, but it was more trouble getting a standard sized log into the protector than I was expecting. I would expect that this protector be designed to fit your standard sized log better so that the protector just glides on smoothly, no lube or trimming required.

After a drunk guy in a pickup truck went through our field fence with wood corner posts, I noticed the bottoms of the pulled out of the ground 4X4 posts had a lot of bad rot.So when I went to put in a new address post, these caught my attention and ordered one to fit the 6X6 sign post I had made. Shipped very timely, the product is simple to apply. To be sure of the application on a free standing 6X6, I called the company and visited with a very helpful, knowledgeable person on how to proceed with the Post Protector installation. I am a probably what you would call a beginner DIY and found the instruction very easy to follow. Post is in the ground and looks great! Nice to have insurance that this post will last out here!
