Decent quality + fair price = good value!
I purchased this item to use with the Irrigator Pro 525023 Whisper Sprinkler Head I also purchased here at Amazon. I have used this base for about 3 hours on average every week for the past month and the duo works so well I purchased a second set. The head screws into the top of the base while a hose goes into the bottom. I had wanted a base made out of metal as I’ve had to grapple with plastic sprinkler heads before that sometimes move if there is enough water pressure, plus I believed that metal would be more durable. I also really liked the simplistic design of this base which I figured would make it more failure-proof. The relatively inexpensive price point was also much appreciated. The only downside of this item is the rust factor, which other reviewers have already pointed out. Despite my best efforts to clear out the water from this base after each use, I nonetheless end up with rusty water pouring out of it the next time it is used. I suppose I could ensure complete evacuation of water from it with the sprinkler head removed. Unfortunately the sprinkler head I use with it is made out of plastic whose threads probably would not withstand repeated screwing and unscrewing from the base. So I forgo detaching the head and just deal with the occasional rusty discharge from this base now and then. I’d imagine it would take quite a while for the unit to rust out enough to become useless anyway, but even if it did, it is inexpensive enough to replace.

Works great with my motion sensor sprinkler
Update Review 10Jun2025 - I have purchased several more as I added more motion sprinklers to protect my garden from deers. They work great and each off season I address any rust by sanding and spray paint it over. I find the price is just right rather than trying to buy materials to build my own. Original Review - I have deer(s) problem with my garden, so I use a motion sensor sprinkler to actively drive them away. So my sprinkler original comes on a spike to stand it up but found it would tilt and I would have to re-spike it. So I use this stand instead and it works great. My motion sprinkler screws in. With no problem and now I can move it around without having to spike into the ground. This is my 2nd one cause I have two motion sensor sprinklers.

WILL rust if you leave water inside after using it.
I have two of these and the concept and use is great. It beats a spiked base. Unfortunately the inside of the metal pipe will rust easily if you leave water inside after using it. To make it last for years, just drain the water inside the pipe and don't leave it on the wet grass overnight. Remove the hose and turn it until all the water is out of it and store it out of the wet grass with the opening downward to drain any water. I use a plastic Rain Bird impact sprinkler and its awesome and has lasted several years. Sometimes when the water pressure is at its max, I have to put a brick on it to keep it from moving out of the precise space I have it in. The part that got damaged next was the female thread where you connect your hose. The grooves are off due to my fault after a lot of use and misalignment. You can make a square version of this out of copper or galvanized pipe.

Money well spent!
Sturdy and simple, this is a great option to driving sprinkler spikes into the ground. I paired this with the Rain Bird 25PJDAC impulse sprinkler head along with a five inch nipple and coupling (and a liberal amount of teflon tape, all purchased at the big box store) between the base and the sprinkler head. The base is heavy enough to stay in place, and the extra height keeps me from having to bend over so far to make adjustments to the sprinkler. This is a good, reliable product, and so simple that it makes me wonder why someone didn't think of it sooner.

Internal rust flakes off an clogs sprinkler heads eventually rusts through base
I have two of these that I've used for a few years. They look great on the outside, but are designed to become junk. The problem is the interior of the pipe that forms the sprinkler base wasn't well protetected against rust. Water runs through it, who would have thought.... After a few years big flakes of rust brake off clogging the sprinkler head and making it useless unless cleaned. Eventually the base rusts through letting the water leak out and making it useless. Who would have thought that water will make unprotected iron rust? Not the guys who designed these terrible sprinkler bases.

Does not fit Rain Bird P5 --- Socket not deep enough
Well built and sturdy. Warning - does not work with Rain Bird P5 impact sprinkler. The rain bird has a stem piece below the threads that hits the socket of the Orbit base preventing rotation. Had to build a CPVC nipple with a 1/2 inch PVC threaded coupler as a work around. Rusts if you leave water in it. Other commenter had good idea to spray inside with paint as a rust preventitive.

Sometimes less is more...
Perfect. Simple design that does exactly what it was designed for.

Works but with rust
Warning - Works as advertised, but it is unfortunately made of non-rustproof steel, which means that the inside becomes full of rust, which (of course) comes rushing out when attached to a hose. The base is very moveable and does not require pushing a point into the ground to secure it, and this is a very good thing. But it could be perfect if only it did not rust. If you are watering something that does not care if it if hit with rusty water, there should be no problem, which is why I rated it 5-stars. But if any of the water falls on a sidewalk or a pool deck, beware of the rust!

I paid a great deal of money for an oscillating sprinkler that broke after first use. On close inspection, it turned out the plastic base, the sprinkler body screwed into, was cracked. The sprinkler was excellent when it worked, so I looked for a new base, and this is the one I chose. Now my sprinkler works as good as new, and I don't have to worry about a cheap plastic base breaking. This base is all metal with no cheap plastic connectors. I'll certainly buy it again if I ever need another indestructible sprinkler base.

I saw the reviews, I thought "that can't be right...". It's true. The thing is made from non-stainless steel. Water inside the base will come out rusty when it's been sitting for day. No idea how long this is going to last because it's basically corroding when not in use, but it can't be that long. Otherwise it works fine for using a commercial sprinkler system head with a hose (which is what I do).

When it was placed on a flat surface and the stand pipe was installed it was not 90 degrees to the surface it was on a significant angle.
