Limited uses, faulty package, expensive, tastes good
I first gave this product 5 stars because it was made In California and tasted good, but after a second time buying it, I'm revising the review. It's uses are limited - for salads, I prefer extra virgin avocado oil or olive oil. You can't use this for salads because it's semi solid/thick and gooey. Same goes for frying since avocado oil has a higher smoke points than this product as does olive oil.For instances where you'd use coconut oil, why not just use coconut oil? This product has SLIGHTLY less fat, but it's not significant. Saying it's healthier than coconut oil isn't accurate.I don't care for the packaging. It's over 100 degrees on my porch in the summer. When the product arrived, the container was greasy and pressurized.n

I put this in my hair
I found it extremely funny that no one had commented yet on this product's uses for haircare, so here I am. I have 4C, natural, very kinky, high porosity hair. This gem is my pre-poo. Or prepoo. Or however you want to spell it. However, I this stuff is very dense and very heavy straight out of the can. I will generally microwave the whole can for 2-5 seconds to get it to slide out more easily, dump it in a bowl, and whip it with either a hand or stand mixer. Once I've whipped it, I divide it into two different containers. The whip generally holds its texture afterwards, as long as it hasn't melted, and it makes it soft and easy to comb through my hair. It gives my hair a natural barrier against the harshness of the shampoo, and helps keep it shiny, healthy, and strong.Buy this. Put it on your head.

Interesting concept, not a great product
There are several different oils being reviewed on this page. I'm reviewing the plain avocado and coconut blend, without chili, lime, turmeric, whatnot. It's not clear from many of the reviews which blend the reviewer is talking about. There are a number of rave reviews, but if any of them are about the plain coconut-avocado blend, I don't get the raves at all.I cook with both coconut oil and avocado oil frequently, so I'm very familiar with the properties of each. So I was intrigued by the idea of mixing the two to raise the smoke point of pure coconut oil, which isn't that high, especially if it's unrefined. Lowering the saturated fat of coconut oil doesn't concern me. I'm not on a low-fat diet and the fats in coconut oil are healthier than those in conventionally raised meat and dairy. After trying this product, I prefer using the two oils separately, or might try mixing my own batch, but I wouldn't buy this.(1) I don't care for the smell when cooking with it, which for some reason is worse than either oil individually. Frankly, it smells pretty bad. And it carries over into the food. There are several reviewers who report the lovely aroma of coconut oil in this. Either they're using a different blend, or they don't know what coconut oil smells like, or I got a bad batch, or mine became rancid before I received it. In any case it smells rank.(2) The smoke point doesn't seem any higher than unrefined coconut oil, which isn't very high. Avocado oil by itself has a significantly higher smoke point than this blend.(3) Neither ingredient is organic, and I prefer organic, which isn't any more expensive than this product. (I have since been informed by the company's representative that the coconut oil used is organic. It's not clear to me whether it's exclusively organic, or organic when available, or what, since the labeling does not include any certification.)(4) The packaging is leaky and the top requires extra care every time I open or close it. If you're not very careful it won't close all the way. And pouring a small amount from the container isn't easy. Simply put, there's a good reason why no one else packages cooking oil in a container like this, and only one reason why these folks do--it costs them less than a glass bottle. (Please see the comments for my exchange with the company representative about the packaging.)Bottom line, if I want to use a mixture of these two oils I'll mix my own in a better container.

Great product, container needs a redesign
This cooking oil by Cocavo is also called Cocavo. I was intrigued by the concept, as I use coconut oil and eat avocados to get the beneficial fats. I wasn't sure about the taste of the two combined; to me, the flavors fit different foods. But it turns out the blend fits many foods just fine.It has a mild flavor, not an overpowering one, and the chili and lime added to it result in a pleasant taste. I've used it to fry omelets several times. It wasn't until carefully reading the Amazon product detail page to write this review that I discovered the "high smoke point" mentioned on the product label is 400 DegrF.That's pretty significant. The smoke point of peanut oil is only slightly higher, at 435 DegrF. I use peanut oil to pop popcorn. So this will work also. And it will impart a flavor that enhances the way the popcorn tastes. Next time I pop, it will be with this oil. I already know what to expect, and it's all good.Olive oil is widely used in cooking, but I reserve it for raw dishes. Why? Its smoke point is only 190 DegrF. Many people pop popcorn with it, generating massive amounts of smoke. I pop it outdoors on an inductive portable stove set up on a glass table, and I set that for 225 DegrF. Not suitable for many of the oils people use for popping. You can use this Cocavo to "grease" pans for all kind of baked dishes; for example when baking squash or meats. Regular coconut oil smokes at 350 DegrF, meaning you can't set the oven for 375 DegrF. With this blend, you can do that. If you need higher temperatures, then of course use some other oil; avacado oil smokes at 520 DegrF.Update (about a week since original posting): It DOES smoke a little when popping corn. But, wow, the flavor! It is really, really good. This oil is slushy at room temperature, just as regular coconut oil is. So it's easy to work with. The low temperature at which it becomes liquid also has positive health implications. What I really do not like about this product is the container it comes in. I had a heck of a time getting it open. In frustration, I took it out to the garage and used a pair of pump pliers to pry the lid up. Popping the lid all the way back down means repeating this exercise. If I were to use this regularly (and I might), I would have a glass container dedicated to that purpose, transfer all of the oil into it, and discard the manufacturer's container.I do appreciate the several points on which the manufacturer shows excellence, for example it's sourced from renewable plantations and there's a focus on quality ingredients. I hope they can apply that same care to designing a decent container for this product. Something that can be opened without so much effort and frustration. The amount of disinformation about "healthy" oils is staggering. One of the abominations currently hawked as healthy is canola oil. You find canola and olive oil blends in the store; what a waste of olive oil. Canola fails the test of "healthy" in multiple ways.So I want to stress here that I'm not a person who believes BS just because it's spewed at me. Both coconut oil and avocado oil are known for their health-enhancing properties. And the literature backs up the health claims.
