a strongly reliable source of information
This small book invite all professionals concerned with the care of older patients to explore what is missing in their basic knowledge about some biomedical conditions. Additionally it seems to me that the context for this book is something about the moral domain, the moral imperative for giving the best care possible to all older adults, because the mistreatment can be even inside the health system, inside of our own being and ignorance. Having a good doctor in our pocket is what it is all about; someone who knows how to comunicate to persons with different handicaps, information about who is who within the medical world - because, as Butler said, many older people become lost within the complexity of health system - information about signs and symptoms of the most common medical conditions, diet, infections, assessing elder abuse. medications and brief screening to cognitive conditions. As a psychologist this pocket doc is something I found unmissbale since the complexity and comorbidity of several conditions within older adults is often something we must take into account in all moments of the assessment and intervention process. To know immediately the purpose of some medications, elaborate hypothesis of some medical conditions to understand more the client and make referrals, have been probably the best use I, personally, have made of this pocket doc.

More useful for non-professionals working in nursing homes and other geriatric ...
Very brief information on caring for geriatric patients. Not any help for illnesses affecting Geriatrics. More useful for non-professionals working in nursing homes and other geriatric settings.

ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF ITS KIND
Having begun acting as a carer to someone who has been a cherished part of my life for over half a century, and at a loss when trying to cope with and figure out certain aspects of the problems involved, I found the book of enormous help and encouragement and enlightenment. I highly recommend it for its range and understandability.
