Passed my Exam!
Used this book to pass my PSM 1 exam. It is very helpful that it has exam style questions throughout the book as you cover various topics. I listened to a couple of videos and took the exam and did not pass. After I read this book, I passed with a high score.

Great book for the price. Includes tons of helpful practice questions. I passed the test on the first try.
THE BOOK ITSELF:The best aspect of this book is that there are lots of questions all throughout to keep the reader engaged as you are reading. In addition to that there are multiple sample tests to take at the end. The book isn't very visually appealing. There aren't many visual aids and the ones that are included are very basic. But I think substance is more important than style so I won't take off any points for that. Especially since the book only cost $9. The substance is all there. His descriptions are often brief but are adequate for understanding. In addition to the normal content there are a few other handy sections:- One section goes over the differences between older versions of scrum. It also points out things that people add onto Scrum or use with Scrum but are not technically scrum(like the planning poker, and what to do when retiring a product).- One section summarizes everything you should do to prepare for the PSM I exam.- He reviews the types of questions on the exam, and offers ideas on how to interpret them.MY EXPERIENCE:Before preparing for the PSM I Scrum exam I spent several months on a Scrum team. I read all of these books completely: Scrum Narrative and PSM Exam Guide(this book), the official Scrum Guide(read twice), took the open assessment 3 times, and watched a few videos on YouTube. I passed on my first try with a 92%.WHAT I RECOMMEND:1) Read the Scrum Guide first2) Take the free practice exam.3) Google search the "Scrum Training Series" videos and watch those. Keep in mind these are slightly out of date, but they provide a very visual learning experience that helps balance out all the book reading.4) Read this book, "Scrum Narrative and PSM Exam Guide"5) Read the Scrum Guide again.6) Take the practice exam again.(and as many times as necessary to get 100% This is actually important)

Great content, but the wording for the question is confusing
The contents were very helpful. I'm only about half way through, but I feel more confident about the PSM1 exam.Reason for 4 star is because I felt that some of the questions were either a little confusing, or worded incorrectly. For example, Question 36 in chapter 4.7 states: The Sprint Review is an event that requires: and the answer is both b)stakeholders' active participation and d) inspection and adaptation activities.I feel that this questions is confusing because for one, it does not state if this is choose the single most appropriate, or as many answers as you like question. And two, I was under impression that the stakeholders's participation is a requirement only if they are invited by product owner. Some of the example PSM1 tests emphasized that only the "invited" stakeholders may participate in sprint reviews. This needs further elaboration.Other than the quiz questions, the contents are clear and concise! I hope they update the questions to avoid confusion.Update: I passed the exam with 96.3% score. Thanks to this book! The actual test was not as tricky as some of the sample questions on this book, so I felt well prepared.

97.5 % after 16 hours of study
As an e-learning developer of 20 years, I was especially impressed with this book's exceptionally well written quiz questions and remedial advice (answer explanations) after each topic.I took longer to complete the book than I expected, about 12 hours of reading, highlighting, quizzing, and reviewing answer explanations. With so many real life scenarios, I can answer about any question about scrum, and safeguard the framework in my implementations for e-commerce, e-learning, and e-marketing.The book advises familiarity with the actual Scrum Guide (free download from scrum.org), and taking its short Open Assessment (also free on scrum.org) until you score 100%. I spent about 4 hours taking copious notes o n the Scrum Guide, and it took me about 6 tries to get 100% 4 times in a row on the open assessment.I had planned to knock out my scrum master certification before I go for the broader PMI-ACP with help from Griffiths' exam prep guide and Fichtner's Agile Prepcast and Exam Simulator.Since this Kindle book made Scrum Master so easily achievable, I plan to get Ali's PSPO guide as well.3 Caveats:- The book is text-heavy like Scrum Guide, and has only a few diagrams; most other exam guides organize concepts more visually. If you are a more visual person who does not love reading, you may have trouble, but perhaps the topic quizzes will be enough to keep you engaged.- The text is also rife with errors in grammar and syntax that occasionally make the concepts more difficult to digest than they should.- Scrum.org released a new edition in 2017; it is unclear whether Ali's book has kept up with the changes; I specifically studied a scrum.org change log.

Highly recommended to learn Scrum with this book and pass the PSM1 exam
The Scrum organization recommends Scrum courses that follow the guidelines of Scrum as stated in the Scrum guide. But these courses are not obligatory. I recommend such a course, in particular when your employer offers to pay for it. When you want to teach yourself, the book Scrum Narrative and PSM Guide covers all information for passing the PSM1 course. I used this book as main guidance and passed the exam (I answered 97.5% of the 80 questions correctly). The information in this book is provided in a format that makes it easy to understand, with theory clearly and concisely explained and alternated with multiple choice questions to test your understanding of the topic, and at the end a full set of 80 questions for further practice. I was pleasantly surprised how easy it was to read this book and learn Scrum. Without a course it is not always obvious which knowledge is required for the test, and thus what book to spend your time and money on. The Scrum guide is the standard for the Scum framework, and I did read it several times. From my own experience I can tell you that this book is fully compliant with the Scrum Guide and teaches you much more for successfully passing the exam. Note that Scrum is a framework for agile management, therefore it can be widely applied in product development including products not related to software, and you will need no programming knowledge to pass the PSM1 exam. The questions of the PSM1 test do not only test your knowledge of facts. Situations are described so that you must have a full understanding of how the framework is applied to pass the exam. To train for these questions I highly recommend this book, as the Scrum guide alone doesn't provide enough context and correlations. Finally, I noticed that there are several books and videos available in which the Scrum framework has been adapted by the authors. Learning from these will set you up for failure when executing Scrum as well as failure for passing the exam, because Scrum is immutable.
